for the life of me I can't find anything on how to snorkle the air filter on my sport atv....anyone have any ideas?

I am tired of hitting a puddle in 2nd or 3rd and having the damn thing suck in water.

Some of the sport quads have a removeable section in the front, and it's designed to accomodate a snorkled filter. The other option is to fabricate your own out of hose and ABS.

want to fab up my own just not sure what I do with the filter itself

do I leave it on and get a large pvc pipe to go over it where it is or take it off and put it at the top of the pvc above handlebars?

Put the filter at the top of the pipe. ABS is cheaper than PVC, and it's already black. Try to fabricate a shield around the filter to keep it relatively clean and dry, especially if it rains while you're riding.

ok so what do i do with the filter if i do a normal snorkel?

A normal snorkle is as described above with ABS, up high above the body. Your option (maybe) is to remove the front panel and place the air filter there. If you remove the front panel and you see a large hole that leads to the left side of the quad, you can attach a hose to the carb and mount the air filter in the front of the body.

ok sorry didn't see your first post about putting the filter at the end of the snorkel

Do you have the removeable section in the front of your quad?

How deep of water do you want to go in? Sounds to me like you need may just need to protect the filter from splashing.

oh i am not looking to submerge the atv just being able to rip through a puddle in 2nd without sucking up water is all.

You really just need a way to keep water off the filter then.

ok so here is the area W&G was talking about at the front of my Atv.

unfortunately as you can see water can and does get in there ABORT

before looking further I must tell you that this cost me $20 for the K&N crankcase filter (months ago) and $2.14 for the elbows everything else I already had.

attached the shop vac hose to the carb and ran it to the air box at the front

piece of pvc pipe attached to the hose

i then got out the hole saw and drill and blasted a hole through the top of the headlight piece but it still needed a gasket of some sort so I grabbed an old rockford fosgate subwoofer rubber ring and cut it to fit and walla

took a wile to get it to run right but with some air mixture adjustments got it to run great.....I think a little better than before .

Oh, come on Midlife, I went on that big ride with the RightNuts and I went through some 18"-24" water and I only almost stalled once.

Oh wait my air filter is so coated in gas to clear it off from dust I bet it is water proof. LOL

I will wait until I get me my Poopoo before I start doing snorkels.

Good design though.

I think you need a prefilter now. Maybe one of the socks they use on the racing carts.

That, or fabricate an ABS housing for the filter theat covers it and breathes through the bottom.

That is the old guy behind your house with the mascara, lipstick, dress and 5 o'clock shadow.

Don't know how you are going to "extend" him but I bet its gonna hurt.

I wouldn't do it.

 That was good.

The vent hose for the engine (not just the trans) is located on top of the engine, and it likely routes between the swingarm and frame and points to the ground. It'll be the larger of two (or three) hoses that hang underneath the quad. I think that it would be sufficient to route the hose up high under the body and have it exit at the rear, similar to the muffler.

BTW, if you're serious about ripping through water, use a hose clamp on the vent hose at the engine (there isn't likely one there now). Change the oil more often to ensure that water that happens to get in doesn't stay in.

nothing like TCCKSR does....but 1/2 to full height of the tires
