Introduced myself earlier but here it goes again...

My buddy had an old quad he wanted to get rid of, so I figured you can't beat free. Boy was I wrong... I now have a torn down quad in my garage and all I know is as follows.

It used to be blue
Sat for 1-2 yrs outside with no tarp in ft. worth tx
230 (250) cc
Hensim
Last known problems battery and carb.

Any schematics, manuals, a name for the particular model, help etc would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forums :). We have lots of chinese ATV experts here (though I'm not one of them!) and I'm sure they'll be able to help you get your Hensim up and running. Here's a quick rundown on how to post pics here:
http://chinariders.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=11188

Hope that helps and looking forward to seeing your machine!

I'll give that a try. I've been trying the way it's described on the FAQ but it just wasn't working. Maybe someone should update it with your instructions lol.

No problem :). Jim prepared that tutorial because posting pics can be a little tricky here if you haven't done it before. I think the other FAQ is referring to the site gallery, nobody really uses that anyway.

I have a chinese ATV but I am by no means an expert on them. Have you been able to hook a known good battery up to the ATV and see if it cranks? Then you'll be able to check for spark (watch out for the kill switches though, it's easy to have one in the off position and not get spark). If you have no spark it could be as simple as a bad plug or possibly a bad CDI unit, very common on the chinese machines. Also very inexpensive and easy to replace. If it has spark and compression then I would lean towards carb problems (as the previous owner had said he had problems with it). The carbs are simple to work on and if necessary cheap to replace off of ebay. Always check the simple stuff first though, sometimes some crud in the tank can block the fuel line or plug a jet and cause all kinds of problems.

Thanks for the tips guys. Gonna get a new battery asap and see what's up. I'll keep everyone posted.

You can use any battery, as long as it's 12 volt and fully charged... You could even use booster cables from a car battery if you have them available. Hoping it's a simple fix for you :D

Beautiful shop dog! :D

That's one of my favourite engines; the 230cc pushrod CG clone. The valve cover should be easily removed to adjust the valves, and it's one of the first steps you should take.

Buy a 30mm Mikuni off of eBay, and then re-jet to at least a 110 main and a 25 pilot (higher for both if riding in colder weather).

The electrical stuff is cheap and plentiful on eBay.

My buddy has a quad that's almost identical, and it's a decent machine. Have fun!

same motor that is in my two boys quads. I rebuilt the top end on one of them last summer and was easy as could be. All parts are easily found on ebay.

Ebay is your friend with a chinese quad!!

So here is an update everyone. Finally got a battery, spark plug, and some fluids and started to piece her back together to do some trouble shooting. Once we put the battery on we didn't get anything at all no lights nothing, so we started tracing wires. My budy accidently (let's see what this does) touched the two wires together that connect to this relay and it started to try and turn over. Big sigh of relief.

Now we've decided to buy a new relay and also a new carb.
My next problem / question is what is this thing?

I think it's some kind of temp probe or sensor but I have no idea and I can't track it down on the web, any help?

Another question : what did weldandgrind mean by rejet to 110 and 25?

That looks like a brake pedal switch. It is supposed to be connected to a bracket above the brake pedal, and it's connected to the pedal with either a stiff wire or a spring. You must either step on the pedal or squeeze the front brake lever when pressing the start button.

By rejet, I mean that there are two replaceable jets in the carb, and they must be a certain size for a 230 to run properly. When you buy a new 30mm Mikuni, I'll be happy to guide you.

You're welcome. If you get your buddy to pull on the stem of the brake lever switch, you might be able to activate the starter.

up on your brake lever there should be two contacts that have wires go off them. You can test with a small piece of wire if it is to be closed (Wire from one contact to the other) or open (no connection). Then do whatever is needed to bypass the brake starter switch.
I had to do this for one of my two chinese sport quads as the internal guts of the switch was bad and the boys are talented enough to start it without the brake.
