For the life of me I can't seem to find any pics of the 07 GY-5. Do they look the same as the 06? And, is the only difference the counter-balanced motor?
If anyone can post a link to a pic that would be great. Thanks.

If all Lifan did was balance the motor and go back to the drum brake for the 07, I'd look for drum brakes... American Lifan that is, whose to say what the grey markets may run???

I have a grey market TMS200GY-5 2007 Model It looks just like a 2006. They stuck with the rear disk brake. I don't know if the motor is counter balanced or not. The manual that came with it said that it was and I don't feel alot of vibration at high speeds so it might be. I heard of problems with the rear disk brakes on the 2006 model but so far I haven't had any problems with them.

*****Almost exactly. Ive never seen an 06 in person but I can tell you the paint on the 07 I received is darker than the seat color with regards to red. definately 2 different tones of red which I dont like.

****Battery box on the 07 I got is all plastic/rubber coated metal and is secured quite well. The liscense plate bracket is all metal and has quite a bracket under the rear fender. I dont know but I was under the impression this was a weak spot in the 06...the one I have seems decent. Rear brake is drum. I duid a quick assembly and have not gone over or adjusted anythging but i can tell you assembled as is the rear drum on mine does not work at all. Im sure it will once I adjust it properly but I can say it is a very old syle design and I dont expect it to perform nearly as well as a disc would. I habve to admit that Im a little dissappointed that Lifan could not make something like a disc brake work correctly so they go back to Drum.

Any questions feel free to ask.

The 07's are supposed to have the balanced OHC motor and drum rear brake. What model year is stamped on the stearing stem VIN tag?? I bet it says 2006!

The steering stem is stamped Mar 2007. The MSO says Mar 2007. The Lifan VIN stickers on the swingarms both say Mar 2007..... I went down and looked at the engine it's a 163FML-2 (OHC). I believe this is the same engine that's in the 2006. My guess is TMS contracted to buy the rest of Lifan's 06 stock and Lifan pushed out the last few batches in early 07 before mass producing the 07 model for market.

Does the last 6 digits on the VIN represent the # the bike is?

If so mines number 000342!

The 06's DID NOT have the OHC motor. Sounds like you got the best of both worlds. Congrats. BTW, when did you say you bought the bike? Hard to believe that the bike was manufactured in March 07, and it's already here in the states, sold, bought, registered and on the road. Something smells kinda fishy there. Maybe TMS "manufacturers" them once they get off the big boat!

I bought the bike at the end of April. The bike arrived the first week of May. I'm off to the DMV today to finally get my plates since I received the last bit of paperwork they wanted before I could title it. I'm glad I found this site the more I look around the more I'm pleased with my purchase. The bike has a great engine, good brakes, doesn't vibrate, and arrived to me in almost perfect condition (it was missing the inner part of the speedometer cable which I called them about and I received from them 3 days later.) Other than the hassle of titling and registration this has been a fun experience. Especially building and prepping the bike when it first got here. If I get off work at a decent time tonight I'll take pictures of the brakes, engine, and data plates so you can have a look. I'm pretty new to the sport so maybe I'm misclassing something.
