Wierd headlight thing?

Its not really a problem? But the headlight on my GY-5 gets brighter when I apply the brakes? You would think it would dim with the added load of the rear brake light, but it actually gets brighter?

Why is it doing this and how can I make it "brighter" all the time?

Does that little side bulb change intensity?

Could be a bad ground connection in the headlight circuit, or undersized wiring.

My hi beam burnt out already, but mine dims when the brakes are applied and the engine idles. My low beam I can't really tell. The little bulb doesn't do much.

This is an area needing improvement. I am considering rewinding the stator for more output.

If my amp/volt gage is correct, My bike puts out 16..Probably cooking my battery. 8O

I doubt they are, But my light is bright..It just points straight down :lol:
I will make a brighter h1 bulb work in it and do some grinding to make it point higher.

Headlight fluid was fine...the blinker fluid was a little low 8)

This is what I think...

The brake light and "winkers" run of the battery. i.e. you can use them when the bike is not running.

The headlight and dash lights run off the stator. i.e. they only turn on when the bike is running.

When the brake is applied, the two circuits are linked momentarily. The headlight then pulls power off the battery while these are linked. Causing it to glow brighter.

I have tested this with the turn signals as well, they also brighten the headlight when they flash.

Not so sure about that. ALL my lights, headlight included, work just fine with the switch in the ON position, engine NOT running. Also, these bikes will run and function normally, lights too, with NO battery even in there, so I don't believe there is two separate lighting circuits. That would make no sense. OB1 has it correct, you have a ground problem.

I've already tried running another ground to the headlight. It still did it. I even took the grinder and re-did all my frame grounds. Mine is a GY-5, the headlights and dash lights do not turn on without the engine running.

The headlight/taillight on my gy-2 only operate with the engine running also. The must be only powered by the stator. The winkers and brake light work off the battery. I suppose it could all be wired to be run off the battery to keep a more consistent lighting.

On my *Whatever it is* The everything works with a turn of the key. All the lights turn on and the horn.

My "what ever it is" is the same. Street legalized, they changed alot, blinkers and manditory low watt emergncy light. All on with the twist of the key. Xinyue Easy 150cc. Can you check Ob1's advice?

anyone think it could be the rectifier/voltage regulator? the lights stay brighter for a brief second after i let off the brake, then they go dimmer again. If it was a matter of a "connection" there wouldnt be any delays in the power surge.
