I started assembling one of them. A few notible things.

1) Not OHC, was disappointed but I will make it work. Still has the 163 FML designation and shows 197cc
2) Comes with mono shock bolted directly to the swingarm. No linkage! Probably a good 6-8" of rear travel. Much better than the 06 DB-07A that I have.
3) Comes with smog "stuff" that will have to be taken off
4) Convential forks, 56 rear sprocket, and drum rear as expected. Will be getting the 46 sprocket and MSO from the distributor soon.
5) Steel gas tank under the plastic cover!! I was shocked and pleased.
6) Seat seems to have better padding then the 06 DB-07A that I have
7) Surprisingly nothing on the bike says Roketa yet the shipping invoice was still sent from Goldenvale just like the last back in October. Funny? Something else is there is an emissions plaque on the frame stating that it meets California emissions for 2007 and has the Shineray logo at the bottom. Don't know if that means the frame was manufactured by Shineray or the enitre bike was. Who knows. I will enjoy riding these with my girlfriend in the next months. I'll keep ya'll posted when I actually take a test ride.

Sounds cool Fatboy,
No suspension linkage, maybe the Chinese are reading Sam's posts...
Maybe Shineray is a blackmarket Roketa name, who know's as long as it runs and you can find parts through whatever brand, who cares!! Have fun and keep us posted...

Kinda crummy on the motor, but the pushrod motors seem to do fine. Cool about the rear suspension! Are you prepared to let us all know where you got such a good deal yet??? BTW, Shineray and Roketa are the same bike. A lot of the old Terminator pics (Terminator turned into Roketa) have Shineray stickers all over the bikes! In fact, I believe some of the pics in my Roketa DB07A manual have Shineray stickers on them.

Yeah, be glad you don't have to fiddle with that rear suspension! I'm almost at my wits end with this Viva. Every shock I have tried hasn't worked without the linkage. Even the Buell shock. Since I have cut all the linkage mounts off, I have nowhere else to go with it. Monday afternoon, I finally bolted on the Honda XR200R shock that I purchased off a buddy for $20. It seems to work somewhat. I'm going to try to stiffen the spring up. Maybe this will help. I may end up going back to the stock Viva shock. Pictures and an update will posted sometime this weekend.

Ok here's the deal http://www.extreme-scooters.com/

I got both for $1700 delivered. I'm sure the great price I got was because I purchased two at a time and saved on shipping for the second. I'm not sure how much Dave actually made on this but I know he sells lots of other brands so I'm guessing he can give the lowest price because of this. I'm still waiting on the MSO and the 46 tooth sprockets. This has not kept me from riding it. Right now with the stock gearing, it probably has a top speed around 55(I have not yet tried). I have been riding it the past couple of days at around 40mph comfortably. It seems to be surprisingly smooth at this [rpm/speed] for what I thought it would be for a push rod engine. I'm hoping the 46 sprocket will put me in the pocket to cruise around 50-55mph which is where we'd do most of our riding anyway. The ride is much more plush with the seat and suspension. I will be putting some grips and/or bar end weights on it to deaden the handle bars since I've gotten spoiled with my 07A.

I went ahead and did the exhaust and carb mod as I was assembling and locktiting. It starts and runs great. I may leave the stock air box on for the time being since it still has all the smog stuff still hooked up. I will take some pics soon, but they pretty much look like my DB-07A except they're black. Still haven't decided what color combinations or paint mods I want to do but I guess we'll ride them for a while first.

That's a smokin' deal and it sounds like they are a good ride. Definately can't beat that deal. I was hoping to see you rack up 10,000 miles on the old Roketa by the end of the year though, just to say it had been done! The good news is, now that you got a spare bike, the other one will NEVER break down!!!!!!!

Yeah, that's why I went with Dave. He seemed to be the lowest responsible bidder. I had a few others that were just about as low, but didn't seem to be as established as he was. He also sent me a copy of his business license there in GA. I figured he was on the up and up. So far so good. I did ask him about the mix up on the engines and he said that his contact at Goldenvale must have not understood that I meant the same "OHC" vs. the same "200cc" when he confirmed that the engines were the same. I guess it just goes to show that even the sales rep at Goldenvale doesn't know everything about his/her products.

I will still be riding the 07A to work so 10K is not out of the question, since I'm around 7900 now. I'm just trying to work out any bugs before I let my girlfriend ride it. I would hate for something to happen because of a defect or I didn't get everything adjusted or loctited enough.

Took my girlfriend out for the first time yesterday evening. She was able to take off a couple of times[just learning to use the clutch] and ride around a large grass field at a nearby elementary school. She really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to teaching here how to shift gears since she has only learned to take off in 1st gear and stop....which is very important. :D She is able to touch the ground with one leg at a stop. I'm still working on ideas to lower the rear so the seat will be lower for her. So far it hasn't stopped her from having a good time. I'll keep you posted.

Cool! My SO wants a bike too. I am looking at one of the 250 cruiser automatics (CVT) for her. They're twice the money, but I think it would be a better first bike then a DS.

Apart from the challenging seat height she really likes the bike. She'll add her own touch to it before too long.

Lesson 2:

She's doing lots better with the clutch now. She had at least 5 good starts and is now learning to upshift into 2nd and back down into 1st. She'll ride it for about 10-15min and I'll have her get off so I can show her some of the things I want her to practice the next time.

This last time I realized that she was getting the "adrenaline shakes" because her hands were still shaking when she went to get back on. Even though she's not really going FAST she is experiencing riding for the 1st time. So, I said we'd call it a day and come back later.

I remember what it was like the first time I rode a motorcycle and every time since when I've ridden a really fast bike (friend's ZX-11 was the last time I remember this). I'll get this same adrenaline surge and my hands will be shaking when I get off.

I'll keep you posted,
Jason

So, the MCOs came today. Both show Motorcycle as body type :D That's good. I will be going to get them registered tomorrow. Funny thing is the manufacturer is Chongqing Shineray on the MSO. So, I'm not sure if Roketa is still rebadging them anymore. Also shows 12.5 hp, interesting.

Lesson 3:
Went out this weekend to let her practice some more on the clutch. This still seems to be the hardest thing for her yet. Once she is going she is shifting into 2nd and downshifting into 1st fine. I had her also practice doing figure 8s, progressively getting smaller....at least as far as she felt comfortable. Still seems to be a long way off before we will actually do any riding together. But I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'll keep you posted.

Practice makes perfect. No need to rush things. I am still uncomfortable on the dirt since it has been about 20 years since I last rode on the dirt.
