I ordered a GY-5 the other day. Can't wait to get it. I've done a ton of research on these biles and I hope I’m not disappointed. Especially when buying a bike site-unseen like this. But, for the price of Lifan’s I think I’ll be pleased with it. My main purpose for getting it was to save on some gas. I’m mostly going to be putting road miles on it with the occasional off road jaunt so I think it’s will hold up just fine for a couple of years. I'll try to post some pics when I get it.

I'm really impressed with my GY-5. After about 300mi and some tinkering later, its like a different bike. Where did you get it from?

I got it from a American Lifan dealer. As soon as I get it and everything is good I'll post the details. Although I will say the dealer has been very helpfull so far.

Yeah, these bikes are a lot of work initially to keep them going, but after 300 - 400 miles they kinda settle into their own and seem to run and run and run. Keep everything maintained and you should easily get several years out of it. Congrats!!!

Mine wasnt much work... It has about 1200KM's on it now, aside from breaking the top rear motor mount bolt, and the rattle in my exhasut it has been great.

(drill out the exhaust, you will love the sound and extra midrange pull)
(move the needle on the carb, you will love how it starts right up and idles perfectly the 1st time)

Had to change my name to "thebrainII" 'cause I screwed up my other profile somehow. Anyway, in the event I need to move the needle I have a question.
Everybody says move it down a notch. By down do you mean move the c-clip down a notch (closer to the pointed end), which will move the needle up. Or, do you mean move the needle down by moving the clip up a notch (to the fat end)?
Does this make sense?....Clip closer to the pointed end, or clip ot the fat end?

The clip will be in the center of 5 positions. I (from others advice here) moved the clip all the way towards the pointed end. Noticed no difference other than easy startups. I would guess MPG is a little worse but I haven't checked it.

Drilled the exhaust out with a 3/4" hole saw. Awesome!

Savage,
Did you just drill the little end pipe off or did you drill a 2nd hole? Is yours on the road? I'll need to get an emissions test once a year and I fear if I drill it it will not pass the test.

I havent modified mine, and it works fine... especially if you need the emmisions stuff, then I wouldnt bother...

I drilled a hole right above the stock hole. No clue about the emissions difference. :(

I like the quiet exhaust. I can stealth offroad.

My needle is one slot ritcher and the idle screw is 2 and 1/4 out. Runs good, still a little lean yet. Im about 900ft above sea level.
