I really don't see a great deal of difference between the two, mostly the plastic trim. Am I missing something??

And (WOO! HOO!) I'll be ordering Monday!!

You should search on this, there are a whole bunch of threads about it...

Are you getting it from american lifan, for exact details you could ask them...

Things that jump to my attention are lower seat hieght, smaller fuel tank, possibly the different forks, lower gear (lower top end speed), and plastic.

Yep, mainly just cosmetics and rear sprocket. I prefer the 5 (silver frame looks newer than the black frame)

Seat height I remembered, gearing and fuel capacity I remembered after the fact, the gy-2 has rear disk while the 07 gy-5 has a drum brake.

It's going to be a gy-5 from motoxtreme, blue hopefully!

Sounds like a good choice :)

I think it has the rear drum brake because they were having issues with the disc (locking up... an adjustment issue I believe)...

Does the new one come with the inverted or regular forks?

OK here goes

GY-2 vs gy-5
gy-2 has 32" seat height where gy-5 has 34"
gy-2 has black seat where gy-5 has two tone black and secondary color
gy-2 does not have hand guards or fork guards where gy-5 has both
gy-2 is geared more for off road stock where gy-5 has more top end (can swap sprokets easy enough)
BOTH bikes have inverted forks
gy-2 has black frame as mentioned where gy-5 has silver
signal lights are a little diffrent between the two bikes (mounting and size)
gy-5 now has a very easy to remove seat ( no bolts to remove )
of course the counter ballanced engine for the GY-5
GY-5 has helmet lock, GY-2 does not
plastics are diffrent
07 GY-5 went back to DRUM brakes

Whooo, I may have missed something??? Thats about it though

I personally like the styling of the GY-2 better. Buy a GY-5 and then get GY-2 plastics to go on it like Jim on here did

;) well, just the front fender and headlight piece, Tom says it would be alot of work to get the back fenders and such to fit.

Thanks for the specific details on the differences there, does the new counter balanced motor really make that much of a difference in vibration? Does it mount the same?

The vibration was more of a -as a whole- problem than every bike, but yes it is smoother. Other than that it is the same.
