Hey all, I'm new to the forum and I have a question. I currently live in Uganda, East Africa and I'm thinking about getting a Bashan BS125GY. Can anyone tell me anything about this bike? I know different Chinese manufacturers make different quality stuff and I'm wondering if Bashan is a decent brand. Thanks for any help!

Welcome, we are glad you joined us! :) I'm not familiar with that particular motorcycle; can you post a photograph of the bike, or point us to a website?

Sorry, I can't find any exact pictures of the bike. In Uganda most dealers don't bother with websites or anything online so it makes finding pictures and info difficult. I found this bike in the galleries here, it looks almost exactly the same. The Bashan has a 125cc OHV engine. (not sure what the one in the picture is)

Don't worry about the brand name. That's a generic, Chinese clone of a Honda motorcycle, which we call a hondoid. ;) Many of our members here are well familiar with that type motorcycle, and we can certainly help you with your questions. :)

GY bike 1st looks exactly like XL125S. http://cabmmcl.en.china.cn/selling-leads/detail,1066720447,Motorcycle-BS125GY2.html . The story is Jialing bought blueprint... from Honda, which was a big hit in domestic market (Reviews of 90's Jialing JH125L in UK also not bad when comparing to newer chinese on/off bike), then EVERY factory want their market share by making the SAME looking "kncokoff".

Ok, so my options are the Bashan or a used Japanese bike for at least $600 more. The Japanese bikes are "reconditioned" (probably got a wash) and are mostly from the 90's. So what would you guys recommend?
