Hello everyone, needing some info on where i could buy a new dual sport.
I want a zongshen sierra or a tmec 200 enduro. I've called and/or emailed several companies that has them on there website with no response save for three supersportz, valley scooters, and gekgo.
I haven't tried scooterdepot, bad reveiws made me leary plus i don't care much for their choices. Of the three that got back to me said they don't haved any anymore. Is it that hard to update a website. :x
Anyway thanks for any info :D

BTW I bought two Hondoids from Scooter Depot a few years ago and I would have rated their service as 'good'.

I'm sorry to report the chinabike vendors are notorious for bad website maintenance. I encourage you to keep looking; you will probably find some suitable bikes for sale. ;) We will be glad to help you evaluate any deals you might find. :) However, I don't think you will have much luck finding a Zongshen 200GY-2. These bikes are no longer manufactured, and used ones are hard to find. :( I think you will have better luck finding a Honda clone, such as the TMEC 200. ;)

PITSTER PRO is offering the Galaxy 250 XTR in the US. This is not the Qingqi-based XTR 200 and XTR 250 offered in Canada. On the non-North American based forum, www.mychinamoto.com there are a few reviews and discussions about the Galaxy from Chinese-based expats who own and ride them. They seem intriguing as a higher quality alternative, but retail for about twice the price.

Any luck with used bikes on CL in your area?

Anything used in my area is junk, or priced same as new.
I found a yingang on safer wholesale that I liked and ordered.
That was the Dec. 27. Got a email today saying they don't have them. Long story there.
Wanted to upgrade me to a 250 dong fang dual sport. Rather silly looking IMO, Are they any account? Or should this be asked in different thread?

If you search the Street Forum you will find many reports concerning the DF Bobber. Here is just one example. ;)

A new batch of TMEC 200's should be arriving in February. If you read my kind of lengthy post about my visit with Wade Liu, the owner of Excalibur Motorsports, they will pretty much become the importer and distributor for TMEC since TMEC Power USA (or whatever they were called) closed their US office. Next week, he is flying to China to oversee the container load of TMEC bikes being made for him. Due to popular request, the majority will come with 21" front/18" rear dual-sport wheel/tires rather than the 17" motard setup that most came with. A few even had 17" front/rear knobbies, but I doubt there will be many this time around. Oh, and I just remembered; he said they won't have the huge 'TMEC' and '200' and 'ENDURO' decals on them, because he thinks they are too big. Not sure if they will be deleted or just added on as smaller.

Do you know what they will be priced at?

If you have to ask, then....

Actually, that is a good question since we never discussed that. I would hope that since Supersportz lost out on the TMEC distributor, Excalibur would sell to them, and that will keep the price down-ish (heavy volume). I would also think with the tax increases, there will be less $$ to throw around, and these will have to keep the line on price.

I forget; if you search this forum you might find a price. ;) I seem to remember the TMEC 200 sold for $1,100-$1,400, delivered.

I went ahead with the 250 upgrade that i was offered. I'm about to be going back to work soon and won't have much time to be going back and forth on things.
If, and thats a big if, it pans out I'll post pictures and hopefully a video on youtube. Since there is nothing out there as far as pics and videos go.
Who knows I might actually like it, if not i have a few buyers already.
S**t happens

There is a lengthy thread about the Dong Fang bobber on mychinamoto.com

As far as the TMEC, Mr. Liu had already flown to China. The sales guy at Excalibur told me that the new dual sports will be the new generation, and will be a little different in looks.

I checked that out already, thanks for the lead anyway. I was wanting more info on the dong fang 250cc enduro. I'm sure mechanically speaking it'llbe fine. I was thinking build quality, ride quality. What type of engine it uses. That sort of thing. I'll find out soon enough :)

I'm sorry  I thought they were trying to sell you the bobber. That 250 is relatively new. It is probably decent, but its price seems to be a little steep. Thanks for volunteering to review it for all of us

I e-mailed Excalibur through their website and received the following reply.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your inquiry. We have all new 2013 model arriving on Feb. 5. Please contact us by then.

Talk to you again.

I'm not sure if 'by then' they mean to call before Feb 5 or on the date. It was nice to get a personal answer from Wade though.

I received an email from Wade Liu of Excalibur. He said that they received the container of 2013 TMEC200-1 enduro bikes. They have both the knobby tire and street tire versions. Price is $1599 plus shipping. Graphics look different than previous models but bike looks basicly the same.

Nowadays that looks like a fair price.

I agree with FastDoc. :) If you want a new, Chinese motorcycle, the TMEC 200 looks like a good option.

However, after you add in shipping costs for the TMEC, the price is approaching my cutoff price of $2,000 for a Chinese motorcycle. ;) If one is willing to spend $2,000, he can usually find a lot of great deals on slightly used, Japanese bikes. For example, I bought my 2005 Honda XR650L with 7,800 miles on the odometer for $2,000. I recently bought a 2004 Honda CRF250X with 140 hours on the clock for $2,100. :)

Granted, both of my Hondas were exceptional deals. However, I also see a lot of Honda CRF230, Yamaha TW200, and Yamaha XT230 bikes for sale at prices less than $2,000. ;)

The weather here is cold, so I'm busy shopping for parts to dual sport the bike as quickly as possible. I will start a new thread in the near future. :) For a preview, here's a photograph from the Craigslist advertisement. ;)

Yep.

I paid $1,400 or so for my YZF. I put $700 into it with modifications, additions, repairs, and street legalization so about $2,100. It's a lot of bike for $2,100 :D . I can ride it to work, trail ride all day, and I will be entering it in a 100 mile desert enduro race in April :P .

In the time I've owned it, about 18 months and almost 100 hours (that's a lot, BTW) I have spent no money on repairs (since it's original investment in repairs, etc). It's maintenece costs have been trivial too.

Used Japanese bikes can be an excellent value, IF you are a CL shark. 8)

Cherry Yamaha XT225. $2,200.

http://yakima.craigslist.org/mcy/3600949781.html

There are dozens of these deals on CL at any given time.

Not long ago decent Chinabikes (GY2's and 5's) could be had for $1,000 or less delivered. Zongs and Q's were regularly $1,500 or less. :P

These bikes were great values then, even competitive with used Japanese bikes. I have owned 5-6 Chinabikes and I liked them very much. The Q's I still wish I had.

However, the distributers/dealers appear to have gotten greedy and largely priced themselves out of competition.

Indeed, I bought my Zong for $950, new, in-the-crate. I paid an additional $238 to have it shipped to me. For that price, my Zong was an exceptional deal. :D

Other forum members bought new Zongs for $1,000, delivered! Many members of these forums also bought QLink XF200 bikes for $1,500, delivered. Those were all superb deals! :)

However, now that the surplus stock has been depleted, the Chinese motorcycle dealers are getting greedy. They are almost charging Japanese prices for Chinese motorcycles! 8O
