My Roketa seat gets uncomfortable pretty fast. Has anyone tried one of the gel pads? They are kinda expensive!
BTW, rolled past 1500 miles last evening.

A couple guys on the ADVrider.com and Yahoo DR650 forums have bought ATV gel seat covers from Walmart.

"the product is Comfort Ride ATV Seat Cover, made by Stearns"
I haven't used one but the seat on my DR and the seat on the Lifan I had were very similar. It might be worth a try.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! The 17 mile trip to work is about my limit!

By the way, my Roketa DB-05 odometer is in kilometers, is your in miles? My speedo is MPH, but Odomter is definately KM's.

dlunt: I have seen some posts about that seat cover, even a picture, but haven't come across one in walmart. I'm surprised that no one else has chimed in on this, this seat of mine is a butt breaker! I rode a total of about 120 miles a few weekends ago, about 35 miles in the morning for errands, & another 80+ in the afternoon for just a ride, & my butt was so sore I was walking with a limp. I'm about to steal a cushion off the couch & suffer the wrath of the wife so I can walk normally again!
buymore: Yep, my odometer is in miles. I was pretty surprised, as I ordered my bike in the spring of '07 & received an '05 according to the frame plate & MSO.

I picked one up from Walmart this morning and set it on the GY2 we have at the shop. Shorter than the stock seat but if it works for longer trips...
I'll decide if I want to keep it or not when I go to install it and if it doesn't look too tacky.

I will have to sneek off for a ride to Wal-mart. I am thinking about covering it with some vinyl and building it into the seat if I like how it feels.
I will try the more redneck wal-mart first. More likely to have one. You are require to wear at least some form of camo to enter. :D

Anyone want mine for $24 shipped (covers my paypal fees)? I don't think I'll want it for my mostly short trips

I bought one today. I got pics of it on the bike, but no ride time. I also created a less than $20 lockable trunk sourced from Walmart and TSC.

Wow, that thing covers the entire seat.
And I have to ask.......what is that engine from on the floor, & is that fan supposed to be there?

The pad covers about 90% of the seat. I haven't ridden much with it yet. Took about 5 minutes to put it on.
Engine from a Honda CX500. It is a liquid cooled and that is the radiator fan. I part out old bikes on ebay for play money. It paid for a Lifan.

I found it in the ATV section where they have the helmets. It was in the automotive area. They come rolled up with a red label around them.

Been to 8 different Walmart stores and have never found one of these for sale. Bought one from a guy on ADVrider.com
We'll see how they work.

It makes all the difference in comfort for me. The stocl seat was like a board.
It may be a regional Wal-mart item. The rednecks ride ATVs here.

I looked at those pads at Walmart awhile back but passed because they seemed too hard--but it's hard to say for sure until you try one. I think they are some sort of foam and not a gel pad.

Just looking at that seat makes my butt feel better! Reminds me of the way the seats were on the old enduros.

I have a gel pad. It ain't all that great, but it helps change the pressure points on the ol' rear. On the Diamo, it helps keep the vibs off my private parts. That gets REAL irritating. Now, if I was a girl.....
katoranger

It probably is not gel, but it does help. Less vibes transferred and I think it makes the seat cooler with some air channels underneath.
I still have only put about 5km on it.

I actually like the way this bike is styled, The seat is like any older street bike and it rides like one...Just wish it was faster  To bad it is old news and will never be made again...I will miss it when it dies.

I put a gel pad and memory foam in my seat and I can go 200km and still be enjoying it. It really works and is well worth the cost and effort.

I think my seat wins the cheapo prize. I'd fix it but I want to change it completely. AZ nice seat, and nice tires too. :D Very street. I'm going to get 5 months to tinker in the winter, but besides rejetting the carb, everything I want to change on my bike is for looks and ride comfort, not really mechanical.

My pad came on friday, so I went out for a 130 mile ride on Saturday. My butt still hurt, but it didn't start hurting as quicky. I was a bit disappointed. Not sure what I want to try next.
Akonababe, did you remove your seat cover to put the gel pad & foam inside?

yes, I removed the seat cover to put the pad and memory foam in worked good. Then when I reupholstered the seat, I added another inch of foam all around, even better.

An update. Similar idea on a faster and cheaper scale. I will probably cover it all if I find it to work well

I cut some foam from an old car seat and made it flatter and wider at the butt.
http://www.chinariders.net/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=6184&g2_serialNumber=2
Place Walmart cover over it. It is extra cushy and the extra width helps. I have to take an extended ride to see how well it does.
This add a couple of inches in seat height. I can still flat foot at a stop.

Hi,
I just posted this on the Yahoo board because my butt hurts after a good ride too. I was looking at a Yamaha XT225 forum and they talk about a gel insert that goes under the upholstery.
See ebay item 170157487133. The company has a website with instructions and photos on how to assemble it and how to cut your insert into your seat. Not too expensive if you do it yourself.
Instructions are here:

Thanks,
