I think that anything from Bell is a safe bet. Good price, too.

The price is good, and the helmet is attractive. :) If it fits your head, and it is DOT approved, I don't think you can go wrong at that price. ;)

Just FYI. Black helmets will be much hotter than a lighter color. Also I think I read that the safest color is white.
Its your choice. I don't see anything wrong with the helmet you picked.

I always wore sunglasses under the clear shield. Usually I would be riding in the daylight to work and the dark home.

I have self darkening glasses that help but the UV potection of the shield blunts their response to the sunshine. I like tinted shields but because I rise all year and in the winter its dark a lot I usually stay with a clear shield.
Anything from Bell is good.
With helmets, anything DOT approved, and Snell also if affordable, is going to protect your head. There are plenty of $100 helmets that are fine.
What the extra money for a $700 Arai goes into is comfort, ventilation, weight reduction, aerodynamics, aesthetics, and ease of use/maintenence.

Just get two shields. Something to note is that mirrored shields, although cool, scratch easily no matter how careful you are and then they work poorly.

One more thing. That's a great price for a Bell. makes me wonder if they are being made overseas now, must be.
I agree that lighter colors are cooler, although my newest D/S helmet is a matte black Shoei.

I think im gonna go with the two shields (lower cost). but over time i'll switch to a light helmet once i decide what color i want to paint my bike, I'm thinking of a fluorescent color due to the fact that i'll be seen, people in FL are not the greatest drivers. So far this year i've seen over 10+ motorcycle related accidents.
I'm going for this kind of look maybe a little brighter.

The price of the helmet is good would a good one to try until you decide you want to try something different.
It is also nice to have a spare.
I have had numerous helmets.

I remember reading Florida has the highest motorcycle accident rate per 100,000 miles travelled in the country. I don't want to say its the old folks but...

White helmets 24% safer.

A dork vest is not a bad idea either.

I wear a dork vest since I was nearly killed by the cellphone talking girl who tried to run me over 3 years ago.
My on-road riding jacket is silver, but my next one will likley be dork colored.

Personally, I believe DOT rated helmets are actually safer than Snell rated helmets. I have read several interesting articles proposing this theory, and I subscribe to it. ;) Therefore, I think any DOT helmet will protect you very well. The $700 helmets are more comfortable, quiet, cleanable, and pretty. However, I don't think they protect your head any better. ;)
Have you taken the MSF Rider Safety Course? If not, I suggest you register for the course as soon as possible. 8O The riding skills you learn, and the mental strategies you acquire will make you much safer. Taking this course is the best money you will every spend! ;)

Other than situational awareness and riding skills, visibility is the most important factor for safety. Bright motorcycles, helmets, and riding gear will greatly increase your safety. ;)
Krylon Fusion comes in many bright colors. You can paint your Zong any bright color you choose, and you can change colors later, if you wish. :) However, I suggest you buy a new fender with the color molded into the plastic. Fenders take a beating, and the paint will wear off quickly. ;)

The Snell/DOT debate is ongoing and worthwhile :D . A case for DOT only can be made. The Snell is made for higher impact and may not be as good for lesser hits. I hedge my bets and all my helmets (Arai and Shoei, and a HJC) are rated for both.
That's the kind of jacket I will get next. Anyhting that helps keep a guy out of the ER is worth it.

FL has such a high motorcycle accident rate due to the fact that we have numerous motorcycle events every year. Bike week, biketoberfest, ect. Also insurance is not mandatory here, so all the college kids go out and hyabusa's and ricky race all over. I feel that making the bike more visible just gives FL drivers something to aim at. I have people try to kill me once a week atleast. Though most of them are of the older variety since I live in Lake County.... the place they come to retire lol.
