Anyone know if it's ok to run the Dirt Dobber III without the battery installed?
Will doing so hurt the alternator (stator)?
I'm looking to get the weight down to make it easier to put in my airplane.

I don't like running a bike without a battery because the battery serves as a buffer against voltage spikes that can damage the electrical system.

You can porbably get an AntiGravity or Shorei battery real cheap and they weigh nearly nothing.

I would keep the battery. You may be able to find a smaller battery to fit. It pretty much is just there to run lights unless yours happens to have e-start.

UPC batteries come in 12v and you may be able to find a small one.

Agreed. I'm using a 12 volt 5AH gel cell in my TW, and it works well enough. It will only spin the electric starter a few times, but it would be fine on a smaller motor. They can usually be had for around $20.00, and they're light.
