I would not chance it. Any leak there is very bad for your engine. I bet they are cheap on eBay.
Sometimes they can be gooped with RTV on the outside, but I'd just get a new one.

Shouldn't there be an O-ring on the engine side of that intake boot?
Spud :)

I think it is wise to order a replacement intake boot, if it is available. ;) Also, make sure you install a new O-ring with the new intake boot. If the O-ring doesn't seal, the engine will draw dirt into the intake valves, which isn't a good thing. :(

decided since i have the carb off id go ahead and look inside the airfilter. this is not good eh?

the o-ring comes installed on the new boot. just no screws but i have those already.
the drain tube hole on the airfilter was clogged up but that's now fixed. i assume it's only there to drain any water that gets in?

I suggest to using a UNI type filter. The link is just an example and not the correct size. I have found knockoffs that are cheaper.

when using that type of filter, does it connect directly to the carb or do i need some type of boot to connect the two? wondering how that would fit. i think i will do this because the stock airbox just does not quite fit over the carb anyway.

held the boot end of the air box up to a space heater for a bit, and it slipped easily and tightened snugly to the carburetor. probably cant install them both already put together, but glad to know i can make it fit finally. cleaned up the mess in the filter and airbox and put it back together. will have to do for now until i can get a new filter.
