Trick question.

It is and it isn't.

As you may recall I am an owner and a fan of the current KLX250S :P . I have many thousands of trouble free miles on my lightly modified unit and it is a GREAT D/S bike, and this price you have is less than list. :D

BUT.

The Honda CRF250L is about the same money, and fuel injected. Stock to stock the Honda is heavier, makes similar power, and lacks adjustable suspension. IMHO it's main advantage is the EFI, which may or may not matter to you. :D

If most of your riding is at or below, say 5,000 feet and you are not covering 5,000+ feet in vertical change on a given ride the carbureted KLX will likley be fine, and lighter, and have better suspension. :D

Fot the same money it's a close decision. Either way you are good.

IF I had to do it all over again, I think I would have come up with the extra money to upgrade to the Yamaha, or all the way to the top of the D/S 250 ladder, the Husqvarna.

I just wanted to mention I have not ridden the Honda, but the suspension on the KLX is quite excellent, and believe me I have tested it.

My buddy Andy will be racing his is a 100 mile desert race this coming weekend.

We have an Old Dominion terminal here. I overhear some of the drivers grumbling about no loads and things.

That's the main advantage. The Kawasaki's advantages are its weight and suspension. Depending on what you like, it may be easier to modify as well.

After much thought on this matter, I think I would buy the new, Honda CRF250L rather than the KLX250S. The KLX250S is an excellent motorcycle, but the fuel injection, high technology, and low maintenance of the CRF250L have won me over. ;) Plus the CRF250L is $400 less expensive than the bike in the advertisement.

You can easily get the new Honda to shed weight down to WR250R/KLX250S specs by installing an aftermarket muffler and lithium battery.

However, that's a good deal on a new KLX250S. :) I hope things work well with your labor negotiations. ;)

Spud :)

I really depends on how you want to ride it also.

There is a video on youtube comparing the Honda to the Kawi from Motorcyclist Magazine (one of the big magazines) and they found theHonda to be a better bike.

In this case, even though I own and enjoy the Kawasaki, I might be tempted by the Honda if I was to be buying it all over again. As I said before however, I might be more inclined to spend the money to upgrade to either the Yamaha or Husqvarna.

I've ridden Doc's KLX250S, and it is a great motorcycle, with a superb suspension. :) However, I really like the Honda's low price and fuel injection. ;)
