Please do me a favour, and tell me the first six characters of your engine serial number. It's located near the shifter. Much obliged.

Surely some member of these forums owns a Roketa DB-07A. :? Bump to the top. ;)

I searched the forums and found only a few in the last couple of years. I sent out a couple of PM's, but no responses yet.

I certainly hope someone replies, Weld. :? Have you considered contacting the people at www.roketa.com?

I haven't, but that's not likely to produce the info I'm seeking. If one of my CR brothers confirms that his motor serial number has the same first six characters as mine and his bike will do 65mph, then my bike must be a 200cc. My motor serial number indicates a 125cc displacment, and I don't want to put any more effort into this motor if it really is 125cc.

I sure don't want to remove the head and confirm unless I have to.

I don't know if I remember any 125cc roketas.

Not what you asked but my 2006 Shineray GYII has these numbers 169FML 6F050623. Strained to do 55mph with stock sprocket, will do 65 to 67 on speedo (not gps) with a 43 tooth sprocket.

Thanks for your reply. 167FML indicates a 200cc engine, and that's what i wish mine said. I'm hoping that the number on my engine is a typo, because all indications point to it being a 200.

I don't know if I remember any 125cc roketas. It could be a transplant engine that was installed in Mexico. We were in PV a couple of weeks ago, and 125 clones are everywhere.

SpudRider

Did your bike come from Mexico? :?: Are the hondoid motors built like the Honda XR motors, with the rocker arms located in a cylinder head cover?

I think the bike was purchased in the US and then ridden by intoxicated seniors on the beaches of Mexico. If the engine really is a 125, then my guess is that the original motor failed and was swapped in some little Mexican shop. Coincidentally, I was in PV a couple of weeks ago, and 125 Honda clones were everywhere. Didn't see more than a couple of 200's or 250's.

Yes, I think the engine is designed just like an XR, except that it has electric start. Perhaps some of our UK friends could tell us if an OHC Hondoid 125 exists there. I don't recall seeing an OHC Hondoid 125 in the past; only pushrod motors, like the CG125.

I bet it's still a 200 (63.5x62.2) because the common chinese 125 56.5x49.5 / 145 61x49.5 (OHC) / 149 62x49.5 (OHV). Measuring tape will tells the story (#19 had the idea): http://www.motorfans.com.cn/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=16907226&extra=&originator=yes

There's OHC 125 clone in UK. Search "On the Problem of the XR200" in google. Interesting info about Jialing.

Bah! My cylinder does appear to be 69mm in height, so it is pointing to the smaller displacement. That said, I cleaned off the serial tag on the stem, and the first six engine characters are 169FMI (which translates to 125cc), but the tag also says 200GY. That rules out a mexican heart transplant; whatever it's packing is what it came from the factory with.

Just a thought and forgive me if you have alread done it, but is it possible to compare the carbs on the two motors in question? Even if they use the same carb body the jets would be condiderably different wouldn't they?

Weldangrind
04-10-2013, 10:47 AM
I agree with you, and I thought about that. The carb is a Keihin clone PZ27, with a 109 main and a 38 slow jet. Typical for the care and feeding of a 200. I doubt that a 125 could be that thirsty.

Figured that you would have thought of that and don't mean to butt in, just the type of idiot that would loose sleep until I knew what motor I had.

std 125 use PZ26 (Keihin or clone) 90 main /38 slow

I still think its a 200cc.
I agree. However, other than the "butt dynamometer," there is only one way to find out for sure. ;)

You're right. Seeing the 200 reference on the serial tag has all but clinched it for me. I'm still waiting for our good friend Enduroadventure to chime in about what his engine number says, and then I'll be convinced that it's a 200.

Is there a number on the clutch side that denotes oil capacity? I know my XF200 says 1000ml and the 125's sold in Europe say 850ml. You may be able to figure out cc this way.

Weldangrind
04-14-2013, 11:43 AM
With this platform (and all other things being equal), only the bore and stroke would be dissimilar. The transmission has the same basic bulk as a 230, so the oil volume would be the same.

I think this is the code you are looking for. 163FMI. If the db07a is the one with the ohv honda clone, then that is the one I own.

Yours is the same as mine! That letter "I" should be an "L", since I denotes 125cc and L denotes 200cc.

Please tell me about the engine performance; can you easily maintain 55-60mph? I really don't want to pull the head to determine displacement, and a performance report from an identical engine would help me a lot.

Thanks for chiming in! :D

Sorry for the late response. Yes, I can easily maintain 50 mph. And I weigh-in at 245lbs. My 170lb friend easily maintains higher speeds and does both 1st and 2nd gear wheelies on the bike. Plenty of low-end grunt for trail riding. I would put my money on it being 200cc.

I'm pleased to hear your report; that's exactly what I was hoping to hear. :D Now, I can move forward with my existing motor, rather than transplanting something else.

Thanks for letting me know. I've decided to delete the tank covers, and I bought new black side covers.
