Well tonight i say goodbye to my pain in the butt 1975 kawasaki 250cc enduro and say hello to a shineray xy200gy 460a# (same as the roketa db07a)

Pics to come in a few hrs....bike thats trading away is the one on the right in this pic-

i know what one i would rather have it wouldn't be no shineray..
that f11 ?... is so bloody nice..
wonder what shiping to NZ would cost..LOL

bogieboy
06-08-2013, 05:35 PM
Well whwn the shineray has a title and the kawi dont, and the kawi needs all new suspension and a new lighting coil? I also prefer the much more modern suspension for offroading....LOL

The lil 100 isnt going anywhere hough, keeping that around for a bit....LOL

I like those old Kawi's...

Thanks for the reminder of what white $hit looks like, lol.

Enjoy the new bike :-)

bogieboy
06-09-2013, 12:04 AM
oh, and while we were loading the bike on the trailer, his dad came out of the house with a barrel of parts.... half the harness, the dash, all the lights, the voltage regulator..... much more than i expected to get in the deal.....

here a 1975 kawa would get you top dollar. i m with pete, i would have kept the kawa. but then here registration quite easy, no title papers as such required.

having seen those pics of your pocket buell i wonder what you ve got in mind with your new china?

Nothing dramatic planned for this one, the background of selling the kawi is theres more than meets the eye wrong with it than just the title...the harness is shot, forks and rear shocks shot, tires dry rot, oil injection lines are shot, (cant get them either) needs a new light coil, headlights shot, tail light has no lens, seats shot, and i could keep going on and on... The switch was a no braner to me...trade a clapped out 30 ur old bike for an 07 with 2200km on ittht just needs some harness work and a new cdi...

bogieboy
06-09-2013, 12:32 PM
oh and by nothing dramatic, i mean there may be a set of supermoto rims in its future for some around town hooligan riding...most likely wrapped in shinko 705s, because even in supermoto trim i want some ability to offroad....LOL but other than that probably just performance cdi and coi(both need replacing anyways in my eyes, just to eliminate variables for the no spark, and when you can get the cdi and coil for $20 why not??LOL)

Weldangrind
06-09-2013, 04:06 PM
Why not, indeed. What (if anything) is missing from the bike?

bogieboy
06-09-2013, 04:22 PM
Flat out missing so far probably body bolts, and for sure the choke...not sure what else, didnt really inspect closely because i didnt want him to do the same with my bike....LOL I know i saw all 4 turn signals in the box, a voltage regulator, head and tail lights, starter relay, coil os on the frame but lead is gone, cdi is ther and most likely shot, might be missing the left electornic controls (for the horn, signals, and headlight) but may have seen it in the box as well... Dash is ther but will be replaced by a trailtech asap...umm...no battery box but i am thinking of relocating the batt to where the stock airbox was and running a pod filter, not to keen on the battery out in no mans land opposite the muffler over the rearend...

bogieboy
06-09-2013, 04:27 PM
Oh and anyone know how easy it is to rebuild the front brake master cyl? Mine seems to not let go too well and the handle doesnt return to the right position which makes me think master and not caliper...or would i be better off just buying a new one for $20 off ebay?

Weldangrind
06-09-2013, 04:40 PM
$20 is much faster and easier than rebuilding. I'd go with new.

I agree with the battery relocation and pod filter, if you're not going to drown the bike. You indicated a Supermoto life, so it'll likely be happy with a pod. Here's my favourite: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/42mm-Air-Filter-Cleaner-250cc-ATV-Quad-Dirt-Pit-Bike-/160785732621?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item256f93940d&vxp=mtr

06-09-2013, 04:44 PM
Oh the bike will see its fair share of dirt, but i have always wanted a supermoto look, i have about half the stuff to convert my lil ke100 into a minisupermoto....LOL forks and 17" front rim off a kx80, still need to find a tire that fits the rear swingarm, as well as appropriate triples for the forks...and a front brake for the kx disk...

There really isnt anywhere to drown abike around my neck of the woods....LOL i was figuring on getting a UNI 2 stage... I have one on my ke and love it....

Heres my ke as it sits right now...

Are you missing the choke assembly on the carb or the choke control cable? I have a carb you can have. Also the coil assembly I think.

bogieboy
06-09-2013, 05:33 PM
To be honest i dont know, i didnt look it over, just going by what the PO said....which was that he lost the choke cable...if i need the carb, i know wild alaskan has one as well as the intake i need, seems more beneficial to save on the shipping with one box rather than 2, since i will hopefully be getting a harness from him as well... I will keep you in mind though if the harness and such falls thru....

As for the coil. I already have my eye on a set of performance cdi and coil on ebay....LOL cant go wrong with both for $20 shipped...

well finally got the pics of my bike.... looks like the front fender has been replaced at some point since theres a 4 bolt fender being held on by 2 out of the 3 bolts to the tree....LOL and since its so scorched i will be replacing it anyways....

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/bogieboy01/20130610_115630_zpsb26e4329.jpg (http://s662.photobucket.com/user/bogieboy01/media/20130610_115630_zpsb26e4329.jpg.html)

next on the list is ordering parts for it... bare minimum i need a harness, front brake master cylinder, cdi, coil, and a crapload more screws...LOL mostly the short ones for the body stuff... i also got the carb cleaned up, appears to be missing half the choke stuff...i have the lever but no bracket for the cable to mount to...

i also am wondering if theres supposed to be a rubber ring that the headlight brackets use on the forks? mine wont grab tight to save the world...LOL theres still a decent gap around the fork....

You might want to purchase a Polisport Universal Supermoto Front Fender. You can purchase this fender without the mounting holes, which you can drill yourself. ;)

FastDoc

+1 on the fender. I have Polysport plastics on my YZ and they are holding up well. To be fair they don't wear quite as well as OEM or Acerbis but for the price you cant beat them.

My YZ is dark blue which shows wear more than most colors would I suppose.

after looking at the polisport standard fender, i am fairly certain thats what this one was... it loooks identical.... however i just ordered a polisport motard style fender...hehehe lookslike this...

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Polisport-Universal-Motard-Fender-Blue-Blue-8562100009-/00/s/MzU3WDQwMA==/$T2eC16FHJF0E9nmFQVJ,BQbqv5cE1w~~60_12.JPG

i like the more compact look of this fender than the one thats on there now...

also just ordered an orange performace coil, and a blue performance cdi box...gotta watch them cdis, theres 2 different plug styles for the 6 pin ones...not to mention theres the 5 pin ones for the horizontal engines too....

but these are on the way:

Here's how I solved the button head fasteners: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/181058002666?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I also bought a handful of SS socket head cap screws in a few different lengths, along with an assortment of SS washers. I certainly use them.

Let us know how the CDI and coil work for you; perhaps I'll try them if you approve of them. Please show us the links.

Instead of those cheezy clamps for the headlight, I'm going to try SS T-bolt clamps.

as far as the cdi is concerned, that is the same model i had on my pocket rocket, just a different plug, and it really woke the bike up.....coil i have no experience with.....

I thought that might be the CDI you purchased. Humanbeing says it will work, but that it's not as aggressive as the no-rev limit CDI that is intended for the vertical motors. I have no empirical data. I look forward to your butt-dyno results.

I bought two of those fenders in orange, because Spud says orange is the fastest colour.

bogieboy

As for the cdi, i like this model because it has a little LED that confirms that you are getting a signal from the pickup coil...its particularly hand in diagnostics, since if theres no flash on the led, the cdi is either not gettingmpower, not getting signal, or the box is bad... And if you do get the flash, but no spark you know to check coil and plug.....

As for the agressiveness...these boxes let my litle 110 rev out to over 11k with a race cam...so i would saytat the 10k they say in the ad is a bit off....also made it much more ballsy in the mid rpms....went from being dead even in a standing run against a xr100r (5spd vs my 4 spd lifan) to edging him out half a length by 3rd gear...good enough improvement for me...LOL

That is a significant upgrade. One thing I'd like to try (if I wasn't so cheap) is a programmable CDI that HB showed us. It has a USB cable and software, and it allows you to tailor the curve to suit your needs. I'd geek out over that.

more fun today.... byebye rusty crappy looking header.....i also wrapped the pipe past the clamp all the way to the muffler...event though you cant see it, i wnated to have a bit more portection for the starter relay wires that drape dangerously close to the pipe, that already have some heat damage....

thanks! yeah the engine itself is quite clean, most of the frame is clean too, a bit of rust here and there on the frame, especially the kickstand...LOL but overall its a fairly clean bike for having sat out for several years uncovered....all the vacuum hoses are cracking, but i have a feeling most of that emmissions crap will be coming off soon enough....LOL

yeah thats the size of the tires, but the rim width, not the tire width is the number i need...LOL thanks for the help though!:) i am fairly sure its a 2.15 rim, as that seems to be a very common dirtbike rear rim width....maybe spud or weldandgrind or someone on here would know for sure so i wouldnt have to try and remember to measure it...LOL

Well been looking at exhaust stuff since i got the bike cuz we all know stock exhausts on these suck....LOL And i found a guy on another forum about 45 min from me that has a FMF powercore silencer from a ktm 250 that hes selling me for $50.... Its not in too bad of shape and shouldnt need terribly much modding to work on my bike...

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/bogieboy01/ResizedImage951371855171936_zpsfc5cf676.jpg

The FMF silencer sure will look great on your bike. And i suspect it will give a pleasant sound. Is it much smaller than the original silencer?

Weldangrind
06-22-2013, 11:22 AM
It'll be louder, that's for sure. Is it USFS approved? It looks like a competition muffler (like a stock CR muffler).

bogieboy
06-22-2013, 09:14 PM
it is a good bit smaller than the stock one, and no it isnt USFS approved....but thats not a huge deal to me, and i am fairly sure i can insert a approved arrester into the end of the pipe...

06-29-2013, 05:07 PM
ok got a LOT done today again, i think i am almost road worthy!

started off the day at the autoparts store in search of a battery...got a 4lb tiny sealed battery, most likely intended for an electric start generator or small mower...whatever,it should work...at that time i also grabbed a universal starter relay for the bike, mine was shot... so off i go to do my battery relocation mod to my Shine ray....

i tore out the airbox for the bike and will be running a pod filter once i get to getting that...LOL but anyways from my eyeballing, i figured the 4lber would fit nicely in the stock airbox location...and it does... but,how to mount it you say? LOL i looked around my shop and found some heavy C channel and cut it slightly longer than the length of the battery...

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/bogieboy01/20130629_111532_zps6c11dde5.jpg (http://s662.photobucket.com/user/bogieboy01/media/20130629_111532_zps6c11dde5.jpg.html)

a

then i added a piece of angle iron to the bottom of the channel

then after it cooled,i shot it with some rustoleum flat black, and dropped the battery in itand bolted it up... the battery will come out without removal of the channel so thats kinda convenient...then i zip tied it in to the channel. the angle iron is bolted to the stock lower mount for the airbox...

Good job on the paint and battery box. I like the black better than the white also. The tool tube looks great there too.

Looks good.

Is one zip tie enough to keep the battery in place?

Nice work! I like both your battery box and your tool tube. "The Shine" is looking good, Bogie!

Incidentally, you have proven once again that "great minds think alike. " :hehe: I used a Harbor Freight Welding Rod Holder to make a tool tube for my Honda XR650L, and I will also make a similar tool tube for my CRF250X. ;)

Thanks!!! And cheesy, i think one should be enough, its going over the positive post (the one you dont want touching anything...LOL) and seemed to do a fine job of holding it all on my shakedown run...wheelies and all the battery never moved....

oh and i am curious on everyones opinions on whether to leave the rack off the back, or put it back on...on the one hand it makes moving the bike around a LOT easier since it has the elevated grab bar, as well as the obvious functionality of being able to carry stuff, but on the other its kinda 80s looking and looks a bit out of place to me..

im kinda in the air on that right now...if its going back on it would minimally need a fresh coat of paint...

Personally, I would install the luggage rack. A dual sport bike is a workhorse, and it looks good with a luggage rack. :) Besides, nobody makes a better, stronger luggage rack than the Chinese.

I bought manual canisters for tool tubes, but I like the welding rod holder idea. Harbor Freight?

Yes, it's a Harbor Freight Welding Rod Holder. I've put one on my XR650L, and I am going to add one to the rest of my bikes. :)

How do you get out of F & F for under $100?:hmm:

Just cute ag related clothes for my grandkids is a benny every visit, never mind a case or two of oil, filters, fishing line, jeans, boots, grease, etc, etc. Plus the t-shirt with their slogan, If you can't find it at Farm & Fleet, you didn't need it.

BTW-Their Spanish peanuts and trail mix are my weakness. Not too mention SALTED NUT ROLLS.

My secret is dont go in with more than a spare jackson and a couple lincolns over what you originally went to go there for...also probably helps that the closest F&F is down in kankakee for me, nigh on an hr drive... And no grandkids....still working on the wife to get the kids then the grandkids...LOL more on that in the other thread though.....LOL

You need to go without Mrs Cheesy. Then it would be a few bucks for salted nut rolls.

My Great Grandpa Rush Bullis had some sort of business arraignment with McCormick-Deering, so everything on the farm was Red. He sold them several patents for early hay balers. I didn't even know there were other kinds of tractors until I was around ten.

Between 6th grade and 'that special girl', I was rebuilding hit and miss farm engines and old tractors. I have soft spot for a 1937 JD 'A' that I bought for $10 in 1970 and sold for $90 in 1974. The gent I sold it to still shows it, almost 40 years later. Same amount of time I've been with 'that special girl'.

Yep, MICRider, I miss the farm, but I couldn't walk to my favorite cup of coffee, then, like I can now.
