New "old" tires

A tire I ordered on line turned up the other day...
the first thing I done was look at the date it
was made... Dam things already 2 years old..
not so bad if its a dirt tire but this is a Shinko 705
hope the rubbers not to dam hard , feels ok..
So then I thought I should put up a post for those
that don't realise the date of manufacture is stamped on
motor bike tires..

this one has "2711" on it...made in the 27th week of 2011''
Yer can even see the stamp was held in the mold by
2 philips head bolts..
so anyway theres a bit of useless info for yers..

We debate the importance of age of tires on the Gold Wing forum all the time. Whereas it may matter (personally I don't think so, within reason, and depending on storage) on a 135 MPH 900 pound touring bike it would not be a factor on a dirtbike.

I sold tires in a previous life. Fully aware of the date codes. Usually check when I buy new tires to make sure I am not getting old stock. I put enough miles on cars that tires only last a couple years.

2 year old tires I wouldn't concern myself over. Did you get a good price?

They covered this at one of our safety meetings at work a few years ago, it's very good information! Handy as well if your looking at purchasing an older holiday trailer or motorhome with lots of tires under it, gives you an idea if they'll need replaced right away. At the presentation they told us to not buy the tires if they were over 3 years old. Personally though, I've used tires a lot older than that! ;)

I have been told 7 years is the limit. 3 year old tires would give you 4 years to use them up. It depends on how they were kept too. Sun and weather have alot to do with it.
