k so I jsut pulled of my old chain..06 250gs...
I am prepping/cleaning to put a new 530x108on..
i splurged and got the RK Heavy duty (NON-Oring)
but as I took the chain off I noticed this...|
play in a chain sprocket doesnt seem right..
is this in need of a new sprocket asap?
and if so think the local yamaha dealer might have a exact match?

That system of retaining a sprocket is a pain
in the ass... the sprocket moves and wares the shaft spline
Honda's are real bad for it...
remove it & check the shaft... have yer fingers crossed as yer do it...

My TMEC has a 200cc Zongshen engine, and I have changed the front sprocket twice (voluntarily). Both replacements have had similar play, but I don't remember if the stocker played as much before I pulled it off? Not being a mechanic, I couldn't say if this is normal, but the bike hasn't had issues with the front sprocket, either, the last few thousand miles.

Do you have a five-speed transmission? I believe the engine in your 250GS has the same bottom end as the engine in my 200GY-2.

I also have a little play in my counter shaft sprocket, and it hasn't caused any problems for 60,000 miles. :) Don't worry about it; you don't need a new sprocket. ;)

Why do you want to switch to a 530 drive chain? The size 428 drive chain is more than strong enough for you bike, and the stock chain has much less drag than a larger drive chain. ;) If you stick with the size 428 drive chain, you can use the same counter shaft sprockets as the Yamaha TW200 motorcycle. :)

Egads! :wtf: I thought the bottom end of the ZS250GS engine was identical to mine. My 200GY-2 employs a size 428 drive chain. :hmm:

The countershaft might be the same, with only a larger sprocket. Do a quick Google search and measure your chain to see if it matches 520 specs. That's the only way to know for sure.

Zongshen American once accidentally sent me a size 520, counter shaft sprocket for my Zong. ;)

Does your counter shaft sprocket have the following dimensions?

What are the dimensions for your rear sprocket?
