I was told by a friend he thinks if I go the 44 rear sprocket I should cut a cople links off the chain. And what would it do if I did?

On my XF200, I changed my front to a 16T, rear to a 44T, and the chain was fine.

Ok well I did end up cuting a couple links is that a bad thing? I'm new to the bike world. Just trying to learn on something cheaper.

As long as you have the proper chain slack all will be well.
