Hey all, I attempted my 1st oil change (LONG overdue) on my XP200 this weekend.

Everything came out just fine... (of course) but when I went to put the new filter in, I realized it is the wrong size. I found the part # on this forum but upon re-reading the thread it was for a Qlink Kyobo Monster or something like that and I found one locally (it was a FRAM CH6004). It was too big though!

Now that I have done more reading and found the right part to be K&N-131 or HF-131, I have one on order and it will be here Wednesday (thanks to Amazon Prime!).

Now, since I already refilled the oil (Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50) and put the old filter back in, I am wondering if it's even feasible for me to pull out the old filter and put the new one in without having to drain the oil and refill again?

I recall a little bit of oil spilled out when I popped the filter gasket off, but it wasn't very much.

What do you guys think?

If you lean the bike over so the filter is on the high side it may not leak out much oil. Turn the gas off while doing so.

Yeah ok, that is what I was thinking too. All the oil is down below, and it gets pumped up through the filter only as the oil is primed (when the motor is running). There can't be more than like 50ml up there.. Thanks for the reply!

I can't believe I missed this post. As you have probably found by now, you can pull the filter with the bike on the side stand and no oil will drain out. There will be some from the filter and housing but that is very little. Also, because the filter has a metal body, using a pick-up magnet works great for pulling the filter. It sits in there pretty good sometimes and prying it out with a screw driver is a little scary.

So, your bike come with a gasket between the filter and the cover? Some of the manuals show it and some don't. Some bikes came with it but mine didn't and I never had a leak. The cover has an O ring that I would smear new oil on before putting it back together. Just curious.
