Anyone know if the new Lifans have a built in speed limiter? No matter what I do I cannot get the bike over 60 mph. When I hit 60 all power is gone, slow down it comes back... feels and acts like an ignition cut. Up until I hit the magic 60 the bike is pulling well and accelerating, then 60=nothing!

I have gotten up about 70 on mine, that is after I broke in the motor. I bet your coil is cutting out, but check the gap on your spark plug.

I have been to an indicated 74 on the flat. I think actuall is more of 70. I need to get the GPS out to verify that.
It sounds like an ignition problem. Check the plug first and upgrade it to an NGK with the gap at the proper specs.

Check the mounting and ground on your coil as well.

It's an 07 Lifan gy5... still pretty new , not completely broken in but enough to run it hard for short bursts. The plug that came in it is an NGK, but now that you mention it I don't even now what the gap should be.
It's possible that it's leaning out, it might be the stress of being in top gear plus fighting the wind is loading up the engine enough to show that it's lean... Maybe? I had to raise the needle because it was running lean out of the box, now it's rich at idle (jet too small?).
It's just SO specific... I mean right at 60 and it's gone, no power. That's why I was wondering about a speed limiter.
I don't think it's the coil, it stays cool no matter how long I've been riding... but I do have a SuperCoil I could slap on there as a test! Ya think 80,000 volts would be too much? ;)

Plug gap on mine is .7mm.

Well, I checked gap, it was .7mm... so I opened it up to .035". ;) Went out today and could hit almost 70mph on level ground. Big improvement! There was no bogging at all.
But of course nothing is ever simple... when I was coming home I noticed that instead of the normal numbers my gear indicator was using Klingon numbers. So if there is a limiter tied into the indicator switch it might have been disabled.... I'm going out to trace the wiring for the switch, hopefully it was just the plug gap...
