Ok, I'm getting ready to break my wheels down and paint a couple 18" hoops. Did you guys replace the wheel bearings with aftermarket jap bearings or are you running stock china bearings?

Everywhere I've looked recommends replacing the bearings. . .

I would replace them while you have the wheels apart. Just take them to a local bearing shop and have them match them up. Usually they have a number on the side. The bearing shop will be cheaper than a motorcycle shop and they don't care what they are for.

I always use sealed Japanese bearings from the local bearing shop.

What are you using for paint on the rims? I was thinking of trying Plasti-dip.

This tool makes it very easy to remove wheel bearings. I highly recommend it. :tup:

Here is the way to use the tool. ;)

You might be able to read the bearing designation written on the seal while the bearing is still installed in the hub. If so, you can purchase the bearings before you remove old ones. ;) You can find some good deals on sealed wheel bearings by searching eBay, or other internet vendors. :)

I always use FAG bearings when I can...

This is how bearing numbers work..
EG... 6203
6 = type , in this case ... deep groove ball race..
2 = Bearing OD... also come in 3 & 4... 2 & 3 are the common sizes..
these are not constant.. the OD changes with the ID..
03 = 17mm ID...
04 = 20mm
05 = 25mm
06 = 30mm
07 = 35mm
ETC.

I use duplicolor wheel paint with good success. I was going to use black, but I saw this black chrome system that they have that is tempting.

Here is my donor wheel. It is 36 spoke. Has a 3x18 tire on it. It came off a 70 something cb750. I should be able to fit a 110/80/18 on it?

Will you be lacing that to your stock hub?

The rim should have a size stamped on it, e.g., 1.85 x 18. Inspect the rim, and let us know what size it is. After you know the rim size, check the tire fitment guides for the tires you are considering. The fitment guides will tell you the proper size tires you should install for any size rim. ;)

Will do spud. It's a pre industry standard wheel. May have to break out the tape measure! Lol
