TaoTao 125 A Help!!!

Hello everyone, I am a newbie and I hope I am doing this right.

I purchased a TaoTao 125A a couple months ago for my son. I am away working but just recently was told that it will not go into forward. It is a fully automatic FNR setup (just one gear for froward). It will go into reverse just fine. Any suggestions on why it will not go into forward?

Hello... try putting it into forward with the motor turned off... it will start in forward gear.. plus you should be able to put it in to forward with the motor off.. and then see if you can push it forward... if it is in gear the wheels will not turn... or be hard to turn... how ever you want to say... you should see that it is in gear or not.... you did nto say if this is NEW or USED??? That info would help.. what model... check their site... www.canadattatv.com 3 speed semi.. forward neutral reverse??? did you check the adjustment of the gearshifter??? does it hit and that is why it would go into gear.... many questions need many answers first...

I see it says 125 A... this is a forward neutral reverse atv... same as the other models..

FNR - forward neutral reverse.

Full auto, no manual clutch. I will try your suggestions. Thank you for the quick reply!

Yes it was new from a dealer.

Ok, so checked a couple things.
Lever clicks into reverse and neutral just fine.
Lever does not click all the way into forward.
In reverse tires are locked (machine off)
In neutral tires turn (machine off)
In "forward" tires turn (machine off)
Lever does not appear to be loose or hitting on anything that would prevent it from going forward any further.
It just seems it is not "clicking" into forward.

hi there, it has nothing to do with your problem but it looks like your tires are attached the wrong way?
have you tried pushing it forward whilst trying to turn the lever into 1st gear?

I was also going to suggest rolling as you try to slide the shifter into forward. What oil are you using? Is it due for a change?

He is absolutely thrilled!

I changed the oil before I started it. Ran it, changed again, drove it a little and changed it again. Took a little bit to get all the shipping vegetable oil out of it. I beleive it is 10-40 that the dealer suggested. I can't recall off the top of my head. I will be changing it again next time I'm there with him. I'm out working on the road currently. Still waiting on the troubleshooting status. Will keep you posted! Thanks for the help!

10W40 is a good choice in cooler weather. I use 15W40 all year, but we don't see extreme temperatures in my area. If you're using the quad in the heat, I'd recommend 20W50.

Ok, finally got someone to go out and push the wheeler and the gear selector. It worked. Machine went in to gear and is moving again. Is this something random that happens with these or do I need to address this issue by tightening or replacing parts?

Quite frankly, I'm not sure. I haven't examined a motor like that closely enough, so it could be a bent shift fork or perhaps a centrifugal clutch adjustment issue.

I know that you want to make sure that it is at a complete stop before trying to shift gears.
