When my bike is running, I can't find neutral. I have to turn it off and then find it. Is this common?

Can be. Have you changed the oil lately? Have you lubricated and adjusted the clutch cable?

I just changed the oil. The clutch cable is very smooth, not rough at all.

That's two out of three. Have you adjusted the clutch cable?

I have the barrel on the lever adjusted all the way out.

Maybe try finding a balance between the adjusters on both ends of the cable. Try for between 1/8" and 1/4" of freeplay between the perch and the lever.

i ve had this problem on the zong, and after adjusting the cable, i can find neutral with running motor, shifting down to first and then up a teeny weeny bit. it is working now, whereas before it was nearly impossible.
Common. Synthetic helps tremendously.
Standard procedure is though....put it in first, let the clutch out slightly to put forward pressure on the bike. When you pull the clutch back in, click to neutral on the backlash.
