Hi all, I just picked up a pretty sweet little toy today. Its a Redcat gy200, with tag and title ;). The only thing wrong with it is the header pipe is pretty busted up and needs replaced, and I am at a loss of where to look to find parts for it. I tried a quick google search and called the few dealers that popped up but none of them had any. So where is the best place to order from(preferable U.S. based), for a new header pipe. Also, I'm pretty sure I am going to be needing a new(larger) front sprocket to get up to highway speeds on the road, so hopefully I can get the two parts at the same place. Thanks in advance for any help, and of course I'll have to show it off a little lol.

Welcome!
Nice looking bike. May we see a pic of the damaged header?

Welcome. :hi: You came to the right place, and we are glad you joined us. :) You have earned extra points by placing a photograph of your bike in your first post.
That's a seriously clean machine! Looks virtually unused! Odds are, someone here has a pipe laying around. Also, I've seen different configurations of mid pipe/muffler combinations. Your best bet is probably to buy the whole unit from someone as opposed to trying to match the correct mid pipe.

alright I semi tore it apart and here's what I found. One of the studs that comes out if the engine is missing, so I'll need to replace that. It looks like it was torn out, but I think I can get a new one in with some patients and jb weld:P. And here are some pictures of the header pipe and where they join the muffler tube. I do think purchasing a while system is going to be my best bet, but from where? I'm not really going for performance, as I bought this to teach my gf to ride and maybe take it on some for roads. Let me know what you guys think!

Maybe it's difficult to see in the pic, but all I see is a broken bolt in the heat shield mount. Is there any other damage? If not, you could do the electrolytic de-rusting trick and restore the pipe, then paint it with a few coats of heat paint.

Also, I agree that a little patience and some JB Weld (or Permatex Cold Weld - also good stuff) will repair that exhaust stud. The good news is that an entire replacement head is cheap as chips from China.

You are correct. I may just try that and see what happens. So I'll need a gasket, engine stud, and what is this trust removal trick you speak of?

Very nice. I'll giveit a try when I get back from my blue ridge parkway moto trip layer this week.
Pipe looks good to me! Just needs Welds clean-up technique! Fix the stud, see what happens. Remember....being a China Rider is all about doing it cheap! :-)
By the way, aren't you glad it says "kickstarter"? I wouldn't have known either.... ;-)

Okay, 1 more question. I know these bikes are XR200 copies, and I am finding that out seeing as how I just happen to have an XR I am rebuilding at the moment. My question, the exhaust on the xr has a split collar that holds the exhaust flange to the gasket, are these supposed to have those as well? Because mine doesn't. So I'm either going to have to use the ones from my XR or find a place that sales them. Correct?

My bike was pretty much the same as yours . Was badged as a VIVA ,same plastics as yours . Mine had the split collars . your pipe does not appear to need them . I now have a 250 engine in it (167fmm really 229cc) and I run a cfr230 header ,that does not need split collars . FYI I am not sure if a crf230 pipe will fit the 200cc And I had to taper down the welded collar and slot the bolt holes to fit the 167fmm head.

I have a few XR200 motors around, along with several China versions, and none of the China motors have split collars. That said, I have used a split collar header on a China motor that I installed in an '83 XR200R.

Well I JB welded the exhaust studs and did Weld's rust removal trick (worked like a charm), and now I am just waiting for the JB to cure so I can put the exhaust and bike back together tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get to ride this thing tomorrow and see if I am gonna need new sprockets to make it road worthy.

Oh and just for future reference, the exhaust DOES use a split collar. Although for some reason one was missing. So I just used the two for my XR and I'll replace those when my XR build moves a little further along.

You need a new head here is one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/CYLINDER-REBUILD-KIT-ROKETA-COOLSTER-SSR-CHINESE-200CC-AIR-COOLED-ATV-DIRT-BIKE-/370937485421?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item565d98d86d&vxp=mtr

Well, the JB weld didn't hold. So I took it to my buddy's house to get it actually welded and we discovered the head is aluminium so we couldn't weld it either. Back to the drawing board I guess. And I'll get you some pics tomorrow Weld.

Assuming you have the pushrod motor, here's a cheap replacement head: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cylinder-Head-Assembly-For-CG200cc-ATV-Dirt-Bike-Go-Kart-Taotao-Roketa-Sunl-Baja-/121375349365?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c4288da75&vxp=mtr
If you decide to replace the head, be sure to measure the bore and stroke while it's apart, to prepare for future service.

I have one more ghetto thing I'm gonna try, then if that doesn't work replacing the head will be my only option. Or I may just put my XR200 motor in it and call it quits on the XR project. Decisions decisions...

I rigged something up and finally got it running! I'm so happy. Now I definitely need some different sprockets, as I could only get it to 80kph before redline in 5th gear, if I can get to 100kph I'll be happy. Anyways, I took a short video of me riding it and added a picture of my exhaust fix. Thanks for all your help!

More of a kludge than a fix, but it's a win!
Your bike sounds good. There's a little power hiding in that muffler, but I agree that the best gains will be from regearing.

Lots of good information on what sprockets you need here...
http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=783
That early GY-2 bike looks to have the 15/56 sprockets, with that ratio the little bike could tow a freight train but feels like it's about to explode at any kind of speed. The later
GY-5's used the 17/46 and ride much nicer and are far more streetable than the 15/56. You will be pleased with the higher gearing.
Enjoy the bike!
Haha that's the bike with the dual exhaust, just kidding, one's a tool tube. :)

So, if I am reading that thread correctly I can use a 15 tooth honda xr200r sprocket, a 35-40 tooth sprocket from a '74-'76 cb200/t, and a 520 chain. Does that sound right? Help! lol
Or should I do a 17/46 with 428 chain?
Cheaper would be better, but am I right in assuming these sprockets are going to be hard to get ahold of?

I know the 17-46 would be easy to find I paid 35 on amazon and 35 for a d.I.d chain on ebay that's with shipping

Do you have a link or part numbers for the sprockets you purchased?

Actually, I am going to have to go with the 16T front and 39T rear. Other than that though, does everything look like it will fit?

http://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue/model/183 here's link to sprockets so can measure and for different sizes I found amazon had best prices and with gearing I have it'll top out at 75-80 but haven't done it yet also weldngrind is the one that showed me this

I also think gearing you mentioned would be to high and wouldn't have as much acceleration
