My people called me yesterday and offered to send me a new tank fairing, and new gas cap and a new pipe header. I was very pleased with the service. No quibbles at all.
Orange looks good.... too many black bikes out there anyway :)

No instructions with mine either I'll just make mine like like yours and it will be OK. Is the header pipe going to be without the catalyst egg?

These bikes look overwhelming when you first look at them out of the crate, but once it goes together, you think to yourself--"I could do it again for a friend, no problem!"
Remember--do not squeeze your brakes (I think they may have a little wedge holding them open (your rear wheel might be already attached, like my TMEC was, so you only have to worry about the front...)
Also, once it is together, DO NOT start the bike up...change the oily-stuff first. You might be able to use it on your salad, but it has no place in a bike's engine other than shipping. My TMEC specifies a liter of oil, but your engine might be a quart--it should be mentioned somewhere on one of the information plates attached to your swingarm or near the neck of the frame (also, what weight of oil).
Other things will come to me, once you are building it and posting, so I will offer more advice and suggestions, but dossbag will be your greatest source since he already put one of them together!

I doubt the header will be any different, I asked if I had to send anything back, they so no.. the pics were good and they don't need them, which means I'm free to experiment with the grinder / welder.. a little "weldandgrind" of my own hehe
I changed the oil out pretty quickly. Instead of pulling the nut right away, I popped the filter nut and cleaned some fillings out, then did the main drain plug. I put 20-50 Syn Mobil 1 V twin.. Cos I had some lying around. It's "reasonably" clean still after 500km.. Although my speedo quit again tonight! grrr..

Anyone have any suggestions for torque specs for the bike's fastners? Maybe a Japanese bike repair manual to use as a reference? THANKS!
Anyone have any suggestions for torque specs for the bike's fastners? Maybe a Japanese bike repair manual to use as a reference? THANKS!
If I recall, the axles on my Q were 45 lb(?). I'd not go too terribly tight on the fastners but use loc-tite. My experience with Chinese fasteners, especially on my Hondanoids has been that they are FAR softer metal than their Japanese counterparts. Some small bolts are very easy to spin a head off or strip them with just a small 10mm wrench.

Looks like I missed the fun... Looking good. Mine does 68mph.. depending on if you push the toy speedo forwards or backwards. *shrug* I should put the GPS on it and find out for sure. I suspect Green to be faster.. something to do with the doppler shift, but who knows lol

Yep.. looks at home there.. I have a dumbass moment to confess to.. I adjusted the back brake so I barely had to touch it (which is the way I like it) unfortunately it tightened itself up as I was riding and I thought I had engine trouble. After stopping and smelling the unmistakable smell, I tried to release it but it was jammed. I unscrewed the cap from the reservoir (for some reason) and fiddled around and eventually freed it and set off again. FORGOT to tighten the cap for the brake fluid and lost the cap and rubber seal. I did find a complete actuator, hoses and reservoir for 8.50 shipped on line. I have a cap from a thinners can on it right now.
Old age.. it's a scary thing

AFAIK green is faster in humid conditions, due to the synergy coefficient. a colour blind adapter (www.taobao.com/colourblind_adapter), if installed, levels that advantage to a point.

I wouldn't mess with the fuel tank. If the carburetor is jetted properly, you should get about 75 mpg, and have a very nice range with a 3-gallon tank.
I really like the Ken Sean/Bikemaster Dual Sport Mirrors. The offer an excellent view to the rear, and fold away for off road riding. I have installed them on my Zong, CRF250X, and XR650L; I love them.

The Ken Sean mirrors come with installation instructions; the Bikemaster mirrors do not. Other than the instructions, these two mirrors are identical. Shop for the best price. ;)

Thanks Spud. She starts very rough cold but I'll hold off on playing with the carb till I remove the smog junk as I'll have to make some adjustments then. I may put the 30mm mikuni on there as I think I'll have more jets available to me.

You have the same Power Ranger-looking mirrors that my Q has. I just tweaked them way out sideways. One can see around my shoulder. The other is for visual effect only.
Really like the bike and the color. I have similar tires on my Q and really like them a lot. Suitable for trails and really nice on paved twisties.

Come to think of it, the N.American rep for Bashan started posting a couple months ago on mychinamoto. Maybe join there and see if he would respond to your concerns.
'xpowersports' is his nickname. I almost fandangled a test bike out of him--he was supposed to speak with his distributors here in the US when he came to visit in June to ask if they were willing to part with one since I posted how happy I was with my TMEC (I really wanted a 250 in orange ;)). I also tried to get him in touch with Wade at Excalibur since he was going to be in L.A. for a week or so (I think he was meeting with SSR), but Wade was busy and they did not meet.

Sorry to hear about the leaky filler.. Looks like mine wasn't an one off. I told them about it and they will send me a new cap.. if they ever get them in stock? I received my left hand cowling which had the green stripped off it due to the fuel.
Not sure a new cap is the answer.. Cap has to breathe, but as it's so deep and the tank is pressurized, then it seems inevitable that gas will get blown out. My main concern was that it poured onto the infamous "egg" that gets very very hot.. I think I was just a few degrees away from a nasty moment to be honest. Watching gas turn to steam between my legs was very unnerving.
Actually, if it's under pressure, then it wont need to breathe will it? Maybe half a balloon underneath might stop the back pressure? I still think a breather pipe was the way to go... why they chose this set up for a dirt bike I'll never know.
Can't wait for you "mods" reports :)

My safety trumps the EPA. I'd be sourcing a different tank with a standard vented cap. There must be one on Taobao that will work under the existing cowling.

Found this thread and starting towards the bottom of this page, page 6, someone buys a new Bashan in South Africa joining in the ride with the guy who started the thread, and ends up riding it for over 6000 miles with the chain being the only issue (stock cheap Chinese chain that came with the bike), and the fact that they could not find a chain to replace it (they were in Africa somewhere). The guy writing the thread (very well worth the read from the beginning, btw) acknowledges how well the bike held up, the exception being the chain.

"Mike had flown to Cape Town the day after he finished teaching school, bought a cheap Chinese-manufactured 250cc dirt bike, bungeed his backpack to the seat, and rode the thing to death across 8 countries in southern Africa. Everyone who knew anything about bikes swore that he’d never make out of South Africa on such a cheap ride, yet there we stood on the island of Zanzibar, 6 thousand miles and two and a half months later. He even rode the original knobby tires the entire way. I don’t know anyone else who would have made it happen."

1000 Mile update: I've done nothing to the bike except change the oil so far. It does not like starting in the 30's but a mikuni could fix that. It could really use a few things to make it better but I am going to leave it alone until my RX3 shows up and then decide if I sell the Bashan or keep it! If I keep it the first thing its gets is a smaller rear sprocket.

If I keep it the first thing its gets is a smaller rear sprocket.
You should do this anyway. If you don't keep it, I guarantee whoever is looking to buy it will notice the bike smoothly running along vs. if you don't change it, the bike will be peaky and vibrating which might turn them off.
My suggestion is 17 tooth front (if it doesn't already have a 17 and/or you want to bother with the front) and a 44 rear (rear 44 for sure no matter what). I am guessing the hub is setup like a 1979 xl185. These are a dime a dozen. For the time you ride it until the RX3 comes, as well as to potential buyers if you decide to sell it, it will be well worth the small cash outlay and sweat of dealing with taking off the old sprocket, having to cut links, etc.

A new Mikuni is a good idea, because you can replace the slow jet with something larger for smoother cold starts.
