Be sure to drain the fish oil out of it and fill it with 15W40. Run it a bit, then change it again.

I also like the heat shield on the header. The heat shield on my Roketa was shaped like a cow stomach.
I recommend that you change the screws on the heat shield to something other than phillips (I like stainless socket head cap screws). Phillips screws are brutal to remove once they get rusty.

Fascinating! I had no idea there was a current Honda that used a CG motor.
I'm quite surprised by the Flex Fuel specs. There is an almost immeasurable increase in HP and torque when using ethanol fuel, but the economy is cut in half! The price of ethanol in Brazil must be less than half that of gasoline to even consider it.

Blueberry--I like the look of your bike, and the seat looks alot like the TMEC 200 seat--I find the seat very comfortable at least for the 16 miles each way to work and back I sit on it!
My only complaint just looking at it--they 'cheaped' out on the specs for the 200 vs. the 250 (229cc) and did not put a rear rack on the 200!! I honestly would not buy the 200 just because of that!
Looking at the photo I posted above of the 250 Bros replica (I have not seen that model offered in the US as of yet) I would not buy that one either due to no rack. Is there space for a rack?

Good job! Looks very like my Storm 250. Apart from the rack and forks.
Any issues with the tank leaking when full? It's human nature to cram as much as possible in lol
Nice vid, how many miles (or KM) have you put on it? I ran the original oil for the first 100km then put in some Mobil1 Vtwin. I have about 850km on it now.
I will be curious to see if you can find a smaller sprocket for the rear.. and if it is the same as mine (50T I think mine was) Might be a better option to go up a tooth on the front. Clock shows 65 67 top speed, GPS says 63 - 65 It doesn't change much 2 up, and to be honest it works OK for me/us
Glad to see a few more of these popping up.. I was feeling pretty lonely at one point :)
Keep the great reviews coming!

Hopefully, Bashan used one of the old Honda models for the rear wheel as far as rear sprockets go for you guys. My TMEC used some obscure Japanese/Euro models 125cc bikes bolt patterns, so I had to find a retailer who would mail-order to the US, or try JT Sprockets US division (the headquarters are in the UK), who told me they would have to order it from the UK, and all kinds of stuff! The least teeth available via JT are 48, or else custom. That being said, your Bashan bikes probably are the same bolt pattern as many of the Chinese GY bikes--an old Jetmoto 200 enduro I had several years ago, I used a 1980 XL185 thru Dennis Kirk. For my old bike, without touching the front sprocket, I went with a 46 tooth rear, and it made a whole world of difference as far as vibrations at speed. It used to sound like it was killing itself at an indicated 55 mph, but with the 46 tooth sprocket, while it wouldn't cruise much faster, it was humming along like it had no cares in the world.

i have 250 km on her so far! i have not had a problem with the gas leaking. as for the gearing I'm going to pull the sprocket off and check the spacing and dementions and snap a pic to see if we can find some different gearing options. mine stock is 16/50 gearing with the 4 hole rear sprocket the bike will actually get to 67 mph. i feel with the gearing change it would push 75!
culcune
09-14-2014, 07:55 PM
My guess is these are 1979-ish XL185--at least that is where I would start. JT Sprocket's site is very in depth as far as dimensions go, if you don't want to yank your own sprocket off, yet.

Use your precision device and measure the bolt holes diagonally. My guess is between 80 and 90mm.

Dossbag, if you remove the sprocket for measuring and find a true 90mm diagonal bolt circle, 8.5 or 10.5mm bolt holes and a 58mm inside diameter, then a JTR269 should do nicely. You have a choice of 34 through 47, 49, 50, 51, 52 and 56 teeth.

Weldangrind
09-15-2014, 02:53 PM
Blueberry, the closest I found would take some slight mods to work for you. The JTR810 has a 58mm inner diameter, 8.5mm bolt holes and a 78mm bolt circle. If you were to drill the bolt holes out to 2mm larger, it should fit your rear wheel. That would require a 27/64" drill bit.
You'd have a choice of 36, 37, 41, 42, 43, 46, 47, 48, 49 and 50 teeth.

Actually, if your sprockets are the same dimensions, and I am guessing they are, you both benefit, and anyone else with a 229cc or 200cc Storm (and I am guessing the other Bashan models, too).
I don't think I would go anywhere near the 30's--probably mid 40's at the most AND least.
Ogre--I had Rebel Gears make me a custom sprocket, but my complaint was it was too narrow, and chewed up a few chains, stranding me. I told them it was for a 428 chain, and since the TMEC uses an oddball bolt pattern (based on some European spec Yamahas, and some European branded bikes like Rieju) they were able to create my sprocket getting the dimensions from another brand's site...but the sprocket was too narrow, unless there are different chain variations of 428's? Very good and easy to deal with, and super fast service, too, so it might have been something I did...

The short answer is no. The only real way to accomplish it is with a smaller rear or larger front sprocket.

Weld is right! There is not too much stuff you can do INSIDE these engines--it is best to leave them alone and play with 'stuff' outside like carbs, exhaust, sprocket(s), etc. On mychinamoto, the longest, most read thread is about the Dongfang bobber bike--people have tried all kinds of engine mods (pretty much the same kinds of thumpers we all know and love), but it seems like they are always breaking once they do try something.
Does this bike seem to pull 50-55 all right with the stock gearing, without making it scream?

On the 250 I had to replace the rear pocket from a 50 with a 37 in order to get the bike not scream. on the upside, now that I have the carb, the airbox and the rear sprocket replaced it outperforms the speedo, even with my 240 on it.

09-26-2014, 06:37 PM
What rear sprocket did you use Apleschu? Was it a simple Honda replacement sprocket? The older GY200 bikes (i.e. 2005, '06) were definite Honda clones as far as rear wheels were concerned, and the aftermarket sprockets were easily found and plentiful as a result. Is this still the case with the Bashan? The TMEC enduro went with an oddball hub, which is my only real complaint about my bike...

Doesn't even have to be full.. I had 2 gallons in it and did some rough riding and it came out. I pulled the inside of the cap apart and I'm not sure I put it back as it was. It didn't leak after that but might not have had time to build up pressure.

hello! the bike is running good!!only had a few small issues so far. have about 3000 km on it now. small issues are: exuast stud broke, chain seems to come out of adjustment every few 100 miles, a few nut and bolts got lose (no big deal), i have noticed the fuel issue. if you top it of it spills for the first 10 miles but not as bad as the other bikes on here. engine is running good! checked the valves and they were in check, ex valve was a little tight. Rear tire wearing a bit (few burn outs in the rain:p) Has a small amount of movement on the bolt that goes through bottom shock mount... Ill make a rubber bushing. Did a 37t rear sprocket from a 50t. It did wonders :) being a square stroke motor the taller gearing is nice! the inertial torque propells the bike nice at higher speed with lower rpm! increased mpg and top speed. still good on the trails! stock gearing was to jerky and had to shift to often. I deleted the smog pump thing on the head.seams to run a bit better Im planning on doing a few mods to it.

for the rear sprocket i had to drill new holes to make it fit 5mm closer to center hole. total of 10mm dia. I used the old sproket as a template and a drill press. The holes overlap a bit but ive done 1000miles like that and no probmlems to report. took 6 links out of the chain. I got the the sprocket for $20 shipped.
VERY good investment!

You got me thinking...are there places that sell 'blank' rear sprockets that can be drilled out? I would have thought that your rear wheel was a clone of an old Honda like many of these Chinese enduros, and you would have been able to simply order one for a '79 XL185 like we used to use as our bike via Dennis Kirk.
The TMEC's only drawback is there are very few sources of rear sprockets since the bolt pattern is used by a few European spec motard bikes like the Derbi Senda 125, and the Yamaha XT 125 motard (a European-spec bike not available here). The easiest way I found was an online bike parts dealer in the UK who was willing to ship the replacement sprocket to the US (they seem like the only one who would sell internationally). The smallest sprocket is a 48 tooth.
Thanks, Blueberry!! I am thinking about ordereing one of these too, so it's great to hear about your experiences! If I do, I have to have it shipped to the big island of Hawaii near Hilo. I think one of these would make a good island bike. Lots of gravel roads here.

Yes, good vid.. Thanks for that. My 250 is winterized and on the float charger. Won't start in the cold. And I have never managed to start it with the kick-start., even when it was warm?
They sent me a new tank fairing after the paint all peeled off from the cap leak, but never got the fuel cap or new pipe replacement (heat shield bolt snapped it's feeble weld) I'm not concerned. I welded it back on and the shield covers my inept welding nicely. I guess the fuel cap isn't the issue. But the design is. I took it (in the camper) on vacation and it was really sweet to just hop on and blast around. I really love this thing :) And yes, I imagine a sprocket change is also in order. Was thinking of 40 - 42 though. Cheers for the updates! :)

John, my suggestion is to get a bike with a rear rack--not sure why the importer of Bashan decided to leave the racks seemingly to only one of their bikes, the '250'. However, if the price is right, I guess you could compensate with a backpack, but so many Chinese bikes came standard with a rack, it seemed like they were a given!?

That's all likely due to the slow jet size. If you could increase the size by two steps, it should start nicely in the cold and with the kicker.
