It is a bs200gy-9 and it set me back $1129 altogether. It is my first Chinese bike so I am excited to see why it can do and how reliable it is. It will see mostly gravel roads and a little bit of slab. Anybody has any experience with this particular bike? I assembled it using locktite blue and red on just about every fastener I saw. Really good range for the little fuel tank. I will run one more fuel tank and change the fish oil that came with it. The finish and fit is actually very good. Much better than I expected even the tires are dual sport. I would say 70/30 but a nice surprise. It came with 17/19so I got some spares that I can change to in case I need more dirt friendly tires.

Nice looking bike. I recommend that you don't ride another mile with that crap oil in there. Most of us use 15W40 diesel oil; the brand doesn't matter.

Indeed, a quart of motor oil doesn't cost very much. I think it's wise to change the motor oil without further delay. ;) I use 15W/40 motor oil in all my motorcycles. :)

I have been away for awhile..lurking mostly.. Now getting ready after the holidays to make a purchase. I have seen this bike adverted on a couple of online retailer sites. Interested to hear your experiences with the Bashan made cycles. Looks nice!
And yes..1000X yes..DO dump the shipping oil! You are gonna tear up that engine if you run that bike much longer with it in it..

CHANGE THE OIL!!!

I like the orange which we all agree is the fastest color! I wish they would put racks on these bikes like they used to--only the 250 comes stock with a rack, and I believe only one of the 250 models comes with one from these Bashans, which is my one complaint for you guys buying these. Keep us posted on your bike since you live in a dry climate and can ride it regularly!!

Well I did the oil change and took it out again and it was a blast. I kept paying attention for any rattles or loose bolts and nothing so far. I figure after the holidays I will get busy building me a rack with side mounts for soft bags. Then I was thinking about putting a different speedo with a tachometer so that I know how fast I am revving the little monster. I am really happy with the purchase and the funny thing is that I keep running into guys that like the little bugger but as soon as I tell them that it is a chinese bike they give me a weird look and they start telling me the stories of these guy and that bike but nobody has actually owned one. I have always gone my own way and I guess this time is not different. I remember riding that old beast in the picture and everyone said I was nuts.

The plot thickens for me.. I am going to be pulling the trigger on a dual sport mid January and have seen a few of these Bashan built bikes in threads here on China Riders.. Looks like a decent bike for the $1200 outlay.

I wasn't sure how much assembly needed to be done other than the handlebar install, front wheel and tank plastics. Looks pretty basic.

Torn between this model Bashan (balanced crank engine?) the other Storm 200/250 (non balanced crank engine?) or the TMEC enduro.

The balanced crank(?) motors are more reliable?? less vibration??

What (if any) are the differences between the Storm models and the WILL stickered models (besides the obvious)

Sorry for seemingly jacking this thread.. just getting ready to do this..finally!

Great looking bike BTW! Congrats!!

Without knowing it I got lucky with that motor then. I had no clue when I bought it, but I really like like how smooth it is. It runs as smooth as any Suzuki or Yamaha motor I ever owned. The assembly is minimal and straightforward. It took me about 2 hours because I kept taking bolts out to put thread lock on them if I didn't do that I think it would have been less than an hour with no special tools. I also cleared out the brake fluid and filled both front and rear reservoirs with DOT4 brake fluid just because I did not know how good the original fluid was. It came with more street tires than dirt but I have been running it at the Nellis dunes and it has been handling it ok. For more aggressive riding I will put more aggressive tires. I took a spill with it ok while taking a curve in the sank and it rolled a couple of times but the only damage was the tip of the front brake lever otherwise the little bugger took all the punishment I gave it. The oil change was fast and easy and I figure I will run it for 200 miles with this oil and then I will change it again just to be sure.

I bought a very similar bike, although mine was branded as a Roketa (there is very little difference). The engine is an OHC, the forks are inverted (and very easy to service) and the frame is patterned after an early '80's Honda XR200. Good bike.

It's not street legal at this time, but perhaps it can be made to be, depending upon the laws in your area.

I'd offer him $250 if it starts.

I figured that would be a good parts bike. It runs very smooth but it has seen better days. I got a side project going on old CB200 without motor. I figured it would make a good donor bike. I am really loving these chinese motors. I can't ait to get my hands on the RX-3. The Bashan is proving to be quite a find. I am really happy with it but no time to ride today but I am planning on taking it to Death Valley on Sunday if the weather is good. I want to take it on a long ride so I will get some pics and post the report after I do that.

rascalflyer
12-26-2014, 08:53 PM
I got a temp plate for it today and it is insured already. Nevada is really easy for registering bikes even if you buy a bike without title.all you need to do is take it to a place for a vin inspection and if it comes back clear you can get a green sticker or apply for a title. I could have gotten my plate today but I did not have a bill of sale so there was no way to calculate taxes. All I needed was insurance card and certificate of origin. I had to do the inspection at the DMV because it was an out of state purchase otherwise almost any motorcycle dealership can do the inspection for a fee and it would have saved me an hour at the DMV.

Nevada is really easy when you register vehicles, for the longest time we didn't even need to get green stickers. The only catch is with bikes from a different country, I had bought an Africa Twin in Guatemala and brought it back and after a year of fighting I took it back to Guatemala.

Hi rascalflyer, I have the 250 Storm, Thanks for sharing, I like the bike. Can you tell me though, what kind of fitting the gas cap has? And have you experienced any leakage when full? My tank is under pressure and as the gas cap body inside is pretty deep, it seems to want to pump the gas out all over the place. This is only when more than 3/4 full. Wasn't sure if yours was a screw fit or push n click type. Thanks.. I wish I could ride this time of year (Michigan) :(

I have the pressure gas cap with the key on it, not the screw kind. I have ran only 4 tank fulls of gas and I haven't experienced any spillage yet. I haven't taken it on any long runs yet though. I wanted to go to Death Valley last weekend but the trip did't happen so I am still waiting to take a longer ride on it.
I have been running it around Nellis Dunes and it is pretty rough terrain, lots of rocks and gravel and no problems with the fuel tank. I even took a spill on it where the bike rolled and it didn't spill any gas out of the tank.

Don't mean to butt in here, but I am strongly considering the Bashan 250 Storm.. I can't imagine the dealer/supplier not helping you out with a cap off another crated unit. I don't mean that to sound snarky, I just feel like..if you played down your hard earned money for the bike..

As a semi auto 49cc it would move me at 35mph. I am 6'1 and weigh 220lbs. It is considered a scooter where I live. At under 3hp it does not require a motorcycle license in the state of Florida.

01-14-2015, 08:36 PM
Have you checked the gas mileage stock? Had any problems with the bike? Here, if it was considered a "moped", it would not have to be insured or licensed. But, it would have to have an annual inspection. It may not qualify as a moped, because, here a moped should be fully automatic. I see in has a fully enclosed chain, which is another spec for a moped.

Adjuster

I never checked it myself but it is supposed to get 118 miles to the gallon.

Well it's been a while since I posted anything but work around the Super Bowl is crazy and I haven't been riding much but now I have a list of mods that I want to do to the little bike. I will be sourcing a rack for the rear of the bike and I want to change the foot pegs to wider/longer ones. Next I want to change or remove the kick start lever. It really gets in the way when I put my foot on the peg. I haven't found anything to fault this little bike, all the changes are a matter of preference when riding it. I have gotten really good gas mileage and it is time for the another oil change. Which brings me to my next question, over the years I know some guys use diesel motor oil 10/40 on their bikes. Has any of you ever used it and what results do you get with it. Thanks.

Wow!! That's quite a ride! I've been to Fargo. In the early 1960's Boeing sent my dad to four different states to work on the minuteman missile silos that dot many mod western states. I was in 3rd and 4th grade, so went to a bunch of different schools for a couple years. Great Falls, Montana, where I spent one winter finding out what 30 below is like (I'm originally from Seattle!!); then Rapid City South Dakota; the thriving metropolis of Parshall, North Dakota, and finally, Warrensburg, Missouri. Then back to Seattle.

That's not bad. One flat, and a speedo cable.

Yeah it wasn't so bad, I ended up getting a new tire with heavy duty tubes. I did not take much luggage other than a back pack and stayed in motels every night so no camping gear necessary. It was a slow ride since the bike could barely hit 50 mph or so. I need to regear if I want to go faster. A couple more pics from the road.

Thanks Weldangrind, I have taken long rides in the past but I usually ride much bigger bikes. This was so much fun because of the bike itself, I had a couple of people tell me to get a real bike but then when they would see where I was coming from the tune would change. I specially enjoyed running into the weekend warriors that would tell me that they had a huge hog but they would only ride it on weekends and usually just to go to Starbucks to get coffee. I really enjoy riding and I own a Hog but I think you can have fun with any bike. After I am done with work in ND and get back home I am going on a three week trip to Baja with some friends. I am thinking about taking the little bike along for the ride. I don't need to go really fast in Baja so it might be a good compromise. I made a luggage rack for it but I haven't finish fitting it so that might stop me from taking it along. I need to take a lot of gear to Baja and this bike is a little limited on what it can carry now. Just before I lost the speedo cable it read almost 10k but I wasn't sure if it was km or miles. The speedo is a little weird for my liking so maybe now it would be time to upgrade. Any ideas out there? I am thinking magnetic pick up. I want to see if one of the ones on Amazon would do the job but I want one that reads miles not km. I appreciate the input. By the way I had to cut the side stand and grind and weld it to make it look stock because it would almost stand upright the way t came.

I really like the looks of the two "Will" models made by Bashan. Your 200, and the 250 looks just like yours. I wonder if your Bashan uses the same configuration of sprockets that the two Storm models do. There is a thread here on the Bashan Storm, and the Hawk (made by someone else), and the sprockets that will work on them.

Your bike seems to be doing really well for you.

I was looking at a photo of the speedometer, and it looks like the odometer is in kilometers. 10,000 kilometers should be about 6200 miles. My Kymco People 150 has an odometer in km also, so I convert it to miles a lot for oil change intervals, and to check gas mileage.

Oh, and that kick starter is the oddest shaped one I've seen.

Sorry for the slight hijacking (and thanks in advance) but it is "WILL" BS200 model related :) (excellent thread by the way, thanks for the nice read, I lived up in the SD/ND area when I was younger, so thanks one more time for "bringing me back home")

My quick Question is: Has anyone found a FMF "PowerBomb" Exhaust Header (or any other header) and a muffler that fits onto the frame/mounting points?

Thanks for any info on the engine/exhaust/frame design on this bike. Looking forward to an inexpensive motorcycle, but I like a little extra power/noise to both help get me out of the way when needed, and also help get "blind peoples" attention when they are distracted on the road

Almost have enough saved for my China Bike and the Carburetor and Intake/Exhaust is the first thing I always mod on motorcycles to get more power and cut some excess fat off the bike... not to mention a few extra DB of noise to help say "SOMEONE IS HERE!"

My kiddo (and I am too) is really diggin the Orange color scheme on the BS200GY-9 ("WILL") models, I figure it will probably be his first road legal motorcycle when he's old enough anyways, and he has ALWAYS picked the color orange over any other color when given the option... so why not get an orange bike if the after market options meet "my demands too" :D

You won't regret the purchase, I am really happy with mine. I ended up going with a small trunk instead of a luggage rack. I've had for more than a year now and I've put plenty of miles on it including a trip to South Dakota. The only issue I've had is with the speedometer cable falling out. I've kept the bike all original including the exhaust but I wish it was a little louder.

Hope you haven't answered this a thousand times but, what is the seat height (roughly) on your beautiful motorcycle rascalflyer?

Only issue in 1+ year and 10,000+ km is still just a speedo cable huh, oh man, I really don't think I can live with that kind of reliability :lmao::clap:

Seriously though, this motorcycle is really high on my "Going to get it soon" list... like "order it next month soon" if all goes well :lmao:.

The price, reliability, power, weight, and (s)miles per gallon are all great! If the seat height is right, I think it's a full on winner really, the after market exhaust can always be fabricated by a professional shop if needed

It being easy to work on and being shipped to my door is all a plus, I get to skip all those trips to the dealerships only to find they marked up all the bikes and refuse to budge on the prices :ohno:

JUst an update. I ended up putting a little trunk to solve the luggage issue and I use it to strap my backpack. I use an Ozark back pack that carries a tent, sleeping bag, mattress, cooking kit a change of clothes and food and water for 2 days. It is a compact pack survival pack. For now it works. On the other hand the pegs have proven to be problematic. I purchased pegs for a KLR and they did not fit at all. It is a real shame since I really like the pegs. I once saw a dirtbike with bicycle pedals and I am thinking about exploring that option.

ITs been a very long time since I posted but I wanted to see who’s still riding their little bike and show you how mine ended up after many tries to improve it.

Still get out and ride our WILL200 every now and then... Yours is looking really good for its 'age', what did you end up using for foot pegs and hand guards?

I ended up ordering some foot pegs from Ebay that I liked how they looked and then I welded some steel to the frame to fit them. The hand guards are a cheapy set that I also bought on Ebay. I ended up putting a VM carb but I am having trouble jetting it correctly. The plastics are doing ok but the rear section is broken and repaired twice.
