Chain & Sprocket

Has anyone replaced (upgrade) their chain & sprockets on a 2006 Lifan GY-05?
My chain is rusted and 1 link broke. I want to replace them with a brand names. Any suggestions?

Your sprockets are rusty, but likely fine. If the teeth are ok, you could just replace the chain.

I like RK or DID chains; you can usually get them on sale for between $15 and $25 for non o-ring chains.

Your sprockets are in good condition, but you can remove the rust with a wire wheel brush. After you ride a few miles, the drive chain will remove the rest of the rust. ;)

I like RK, EK, and DID drive chains. Because of reduced maintenance and longer life, I prefer O-ring drive chains. Last year I installed a DID 428VX drive chain on my Zongshen ZS200GY-2. I like this drive chain very much. :tup:

I'm going to buy a DID "o" ring chain. I heard that if I put a good chain (harder steel) on, the sprockets will probably wear down faster because they might be made out of cheaper metal.

If I bought the same chain as you did how do I tell if it will fit? I know nothing about bikes. :hmm: After looking for a set (sprockets and chain) and having no luck. Looks like Ill re-use my sprockets.

If the old chain is complete, you can count the number of links. :) What bike do you own? Perhaps other owners can tell you the size of the drive chain. ;) They can also recommend a good vendor for new sprockets, et cetera.

The chain is complete. Just counted the links. 130 links. Think I'm going to get this one. I assume they are the same width?

I'm pretty sure that is a size 428, drive chain. However, you can verify your measurements at the following link. ;)

Thank you for that site. I measured
Roller Dia. R = 8.63
Links Height H1 = 10.50
H2 = 11.74
Thickness T1 = 2.27
T2 = 2.33
Pin Dia. D = 4.58
F & G I would probably get wrong. So I didn't measure it.
F & G total = 18.80 which doesn't add up right.

By Hooperimports page it reads for my bike they sell a master link for a 428 chain.
So I would think it would be a 428 chain.

Rather than buying a chain that is the correct length, you can buy one that is too long and remove links. I've saved cash that way, since Bike Bandit and Rocky Mountain will often put odd-length chains on sale.

Some people prefer to remove extra links with a chain link removal tool, but I use a flap disc on a 4-1/2" angle grinder. Very fast and effective.
