Excited to get started putting it together. I'll keep you posted of my progress. Thanks to everyone for the research info, it helped narrow down my choice. $1549.00 delivered for a 250cc dual sport. Too bad it has "HAWK" printed on the seat. At least it's better than the one I got 10 years ago that had "SUPER TIGER" under the clear coat on the tank.

You are correct. :) The forks definitely need to be lowered. ;)

Got the front wheel on and the shock attached. Found a broken side panel fastener. Ordered new part, but no big deal cause I can plastic weld the old one. It is so cold in garage that my work light has to warm up before it gets to brightness. I'll work some more tomorrow.

Cant wait to see it complete and hear about your first ride. Thats crazy about the Chinese plastics being so brittle. They really seem to have the mechanicals down or at least getting better but still using unbelievably poor plastics. The plastics that came with my scooter would actually crumble in my hands. I use to work in plastics. This is a sure sign of using recycled plastic that has been heated, molded, ground up and reheated and molded over and over again without adding enough virgin material in the mix.

Hi rndtrps,
It looks like we purchased the same Hawk dirt bikes. I have only been able to ride mine for a weekend so far but have enjoyed it. I did order a Mikuni carb based on Weldandgrind and others recommendations on this site. The bike is acting like it needs more fuel when it gets to 50 MPH. I will let you know how the carb change works out.

The Hawk looks really nice. Did it come with those knobbies?

Yes the knobbies are what were on the bike when I picked it up. I waited around at the retailer and watched them put it together. I also did not appreciate how low the Hawk is geared until I purchased a used Lifan 200GY5 this weekend. The GY5 cruised down the highway much more comfortably but I prefer the Hawk gearing in the little bit of off roading I have been able to do. I also added stick on rubber pads under the Hawk tank mounted plastic because they make a lot of noise vibrating against the metal tank.

Those Hawks look like decent bikes. BTW, a little brake cleaner on a rag will allow you to wipe the lettering off of the seat.

I've been looking at getting a couple of these bike for my wife and I. We are planning a trip from Florida to California next year in our RV and thought theses bikes would be great to get around and go sight seeing when stop. Everything I have read so far has been positive, what is your thoughts on it so far?

Hi, we put ours inside the camper, I made a base for it. It's not Ideal, but it's great to have with us. :)
