Would you guys drill it out to 3/8" for both holes? (IN RED in pic) It almost fits. You can see the gaps using the original bolts. I ordered a 7/16" x 9" bolt Grade 8 today. For the motor mount.
7 bucks for the bolt, lock nut and 9 bucks to ship it.. Go figure. :hmm:

Thanks

For sure I would, but I'm kind of a hillbilly. I might also cut out the tube in the frame and weld a smaller size in to accommodate the original bolt size.

Or, you could bush the larger hole with a short length of steel tube to take up the gap.

An excellent idea, but could be a little tricky to find a steel tube with the right dimensions. This was all Metric stuff originally. I feel much better about a higher grade SAE bolt than the soft factory stuff.

I got an email today reading that the 7/16" bolt they do not have in stock and do not plan to order anymore. That was the only place I found that sold them. Has anyone bought one before? If so where?

Thanks

Just called a guy and he said in 38 years of doing bolts and nuts he doesn't see any 7/16"x9" unless is special made. He can get me metric that long. Stock is 10mm with 8.8 grade. He can get me 12mm with grade 10.9. Or I already have a 1/2" grade 8 bolt. But I really didn't want to drill it out to 1/2" and ruin the engine. Any suggestion?
Thanks

My local ACE Hardware has a very good selection. You can get the bolt in any over length and cut it to size as long as the threads are where you need them.

I've tried every nut, bolt store around here and even on-line but no luck with that size. Looks like I'll get the 12mm grade 10.9. Which is about 23 bucks without s/h at one place. That 1/2" grade 8 looks like a beast and I would love to use that but kinda iffy on drilling it out that big.

There is a chain store called fastenall, their bussiness is fasteners. I am sure you can find a deal on the net if a local can't fix you up.

Get some hi-grade 7/16" all thread, cut it to length, and put a nut on each end....

I drilled mine. Didn't have any problems after that.

I found a place that had a 7/16" x 9" grade bolt in stock. She looked while I was on the phone. I ordered it and it will be here Monday.
What size did you drill it out too 7/16" or 1/2"?
I bought more grade 8 tonight. This weekend I'll replace all of them except the one I'm waiting for.
I'm going to clean them first with ethyl alcohol and then spray the heads and nuts with black spray paint.

12mm is just a hair under 1/2", so I doubt that you would want to drill that much. I'd either use a Metric fastener, or find a 7/16" bolt that meets my needs.
