View Full Version : Out of Ideas

Hi

My scoot has been throwing a fit these past couple of weeks and I'm all out of ideas.

Problem 1:

Gas. No leaks anywhere in the system except for the gas cap. Thing is, the rubber seals on the gas cap are still in good shape and the cap seats properly on the filler but a gas stain always shows up from the filler hole running down the side of the tank. Could it be a gas vapor pressure issue?

Problem 2:

Bike starts up and idles fine but once the engine warms up, it dies.

Problem 3:

My CVT is chirping. My belt is the correct one for the scoot and new (3 months or so). This has never happened before even with the worn belt I replaced.

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!

Do you tend to fill the tank to the top?

Since the engine runs when cold but then stalls when warm, I suspect a clogged slow jet. The fuel enrichment circuit is automatic, so it will shut off after a few moments.

I'd pull the drive and the clutch apart for inspection.

On number three check the condition of the rollers. They may have developed flat spots.

Problems 1&2 could be related, if your gas cap vent is blocked. This would create pressure in the tank and fuel starvation once the carb is emptied. Can't help with the cvt.

Thanks for the input guys! I don't want to jinx anything but my friend suggested that I try changing the gas that I put in. I didn't put too much stock into it because gas is gas right? Anyway, I gave it a shot today and guess what? No more gas smell. Still not entirely convinced though. As for the chirping CVT belt, a scooter mechanic from a shop here suggested that I swap out the slide pieces of the drive pulley for new ones. I'll give that a try in a couple of days or so.
