That's good.

I won't haul my dirt bike to the trails. I put a license plate on my Honda CRF250X, and I ride it to the trails. Then, instead of returning to a trailer, I can ride another route home in a big loop.

I don't do it, the ride there is part of the adventure

Agreed. Sometimes the ride there is the best part.
Have been on many trips with groups and could never understand the whole trailering thing.
Most would state it's because their full tilt sport bike wasn't comfy enough for distance.
That's why I modified mine to be so

224,000 miles on her. Most of them traveling to somewhere to ride lol

Maybe if it's all snow and salt and you need to get it south for riding in an enclosed trailer.

Otherwise ride the bike!

I would consider trailering - but mostly because for me to get to any decent dirt, I have to go miles and miles on the interstate. The interstate freaks me out. Or rather the other drivers on the interstate freak me out.

I trailer when on vacation with my wife. When we get there she visits with friends and relatives and I go riding - SW Missouri and NW Arkansas.
In the winter I will trailer south to avoid snow and bad roads.

I trailered Lifanda from my place to Spudville (a little over 900 miles), at which point Son of Weldangrind rode it, while I rode the fabulous Spud Zong and Spud rode his trusty BRP. The three of us headed over the mountains to speed week at Bonneville, and it was amazing.

That's the only time I ever trailered a street-legal bike.

Here is the translation for our newer members. ;)

Lifanda: A Chinese, Lifan motorcycle, which has a clone of a Honda engine. Lifan + Honda = Lifanda

Spudville: The town where SpudRider lives.

Son of Weldangrind: Weldangrind's son, Sam.

Spud Zong: The Zongshen ZS200GY-2 (Sierra) which belongs to SpudRider.

BRP: Big Red Pig, the 2005 Honda XR650L which belongs to SpudRider.

i would consider trailering, for the same reason drag racers trailer thier cars on street/strip days... if i break something, i have no way to get home... granted i would much rather ride there... another angle would be i only have a 1 gallon tank...LOL theres some dual sport rides i have wanted to ride that i couldnt even make it to the end without a gas stop...

Jokes and aspersions aside, I do sometimes trailer. Especially to save precious vacation days.

I have no need to cover the same boring long stretch of interstate every year when I head out to Moab each Spring.

I'll be trailering to Azusa in March for the Baja ride because the Rocky Mountains tend to snow on you at inopportune moments that time of year.

And yes, I rode my bike to Daytona trailer week. From Denver, in February.

Cheers,

DAn K.

"I enjoyed that bit of China Rider code."

Spudinglish (pronounce spu-ding-lish) required learning for all new converts. :)

I'm thinking at my age and pains , it's a tossup as to trailering or riding to events. Though I havn't trailered a bike anywhere for 30 years. I could see myself trailering to a event and just enjoy riding at the event then come home in a pickup or car with heater or air conditioning. It would depend on what my adventure was . Up to this point the ride was the adventure from start to finish. But if I were to go to a 1-2week long rally type gathering where I'm in one spot for the duration of event , I could see the pluses of having 4 wheels to get around like in cold weather , rain, have all your gear stowed in a rig rather then on top of the bike. Never want to close the door on my options. rj

I trailer to events 500+ miles or more away. I didn't used to, but now I'm an old geezer, in not the best of health.

If I rode the bike, I would be too tired to participate in any riding at the destination.

And to me, riding the motorcycle 500+ miles on the interstate isn't my idea of enjoyment.

Then there is all the extra tire wear on the motorcycle. I would have to replace the tires twice as often.

Necessary evil with non plated bikes, and really opens the ability to go cool places with other bikes with perhaps shorter range. Just be careful to not turn into the Harley poser who trailers his/her bike to Sturgis, and unloads it at the city limits to parade his/her pirate costume LOL.

Another advantage to towing, especially with a friend, is the quality time and sharing of scenery on route to motorcycling. The conversation is otherwise impossible while riding the bikes.

I use a small, light, quality 3 rail trailer that's only about 18" high if that. Easier and much safer to load than in the back of the truck.

Not since the advent of quality communications devices in your helmet

I hall my bikes on a trailer. If I do this there is more chance my wife will come with me. I really enjoy riding two up with my wife. Now if I can just talk her into moving someplace where I can ride all year long I'll have it made. Ride safe my friends.

I have when I moved but not to a destination to ride. I feel the adventure is more than the destination but the entire trip.

My ex wife did not like riding nor liked me riding or doing anything else I enjoyed to do so I upgraded. My wife now loves to ride and got her license and bought a RX3 and she loves it. She asks every week " are we going to ride this weekend?"

Here in Houston its December and 75-80 degrees. We plan to ride until the bridges freeze which is a possibility when the ice storms move through in late winter.

The worst part of going on a adventure ride is returning. I have often thought of quitting my job and living on my motorcycle, maybe some day.

I love following other riders which inspired my two best friends and I to put 58,000 miles on this 1985 R80 from 1998 to 2008 and she still runs great.
