when i was setting up my new bs250gy-31 bike i noticed that it was equipped with A ngk D8EA. they do run great on these ngk's. (engine tag model is lifan 167fmm) yes, it's a 229cc i believe. Hope this helps.

Wow! Could have been a critical Type-o! Thanks! D8EA! Holy cow, the D and B aren't even close to each other for a three finger typist either....

100% Typo!!! Vertical chonda uses 12mm (NGK: D...) NOT 14mm (NGK:B...)

ok, thank you ... the book that was sent with my bike was outdated, does not even have the counterbalanced motor in it, and shows cable operated drum brakes

If you pull the spark plug and tell me what it has in it right now I can find a good replacement for you (or anyone that needs help finding one). I have done plenty of spark plug cross-reference/Iridium upgrades over the years, so put my little bit of exp to use if you like :)

As posted above, "spark plug cross reference (http://www.sparkplug-crossreference.com/)" website is good, but you have to sometimes click around a bit to find the best brand that will fit :)

when i took it out, i found that it had a ngk in it from the factory ... another nice upgrade ... i tried to read it in the head, but the ngk was on the other side

Not all NGK plugs are equal. The Chinese made NGK that was factory installed in my Lifan 200 failed in the middle of nowhere when the center electrode moved up into the insulator, increasing the gap to the point where it was difficult to start and wouldn't idle. If your plug is a Chinese NGK I recommend replacing it with a Japanese NGK or at least carrying a spare.

I too would suggest 'upgrading' to a spark plug of known origin :D wont cost that much  like a couple bucks to what... $10 if you got an Iridium from Denso or NGK :yay:

X3; the Chinese make counterfeit NGK spark plugs. ;) You can buy a genuine, NGK, D8EA spark plug from the local, auto parts store for about $2. :)

ok, i already have a new ngk, i think i will gap it and get it in today, and just throw the factory one in the toolbox as a spare ... thanks for the advice

The spark plug gap should be perfect, right out of the box. Nevertheless, it is good practice to check the gap before installing the plug. :)

Spud, what do you think about buying into the E3 plug theory? I have seen TV shows with proven dyno test results, but I always have my doubts about changing things. I guess It depends on what benefits I'm looking for in this spark plug.

Here's the NGK D8EA equivalent :

Cheap enough but will it harm the moto, I'm not a speed demon so I would be riding conservatively on the Lifan 250 air cooled bashanbike

I like idea about the back up plug

I guess I'm a bit conservative. I stick with the regular, NGK spark plugs. ;)

Save your money and just buy regular NGK they just work. Now saying that we use NGK Iridium plugs in our racing bikes.

i did, just got my new feeler gauge set yesterday ... it was spot on ... did not help the cold start any though ... i am guessing that is an octane issue though, i will deal with that until i get some miles on it, and get the gas out of it, then i can fill up with a lower octane ... i found out the 229 only has 8.7:1 compression after i put 97 octane in it ... live and learn, right

Don't waste the $ on E3 spark plugs, they are junk, probably worse than the 'NGK' you are pulling out of the bike :) Been there and tried those when they first came out... even a brand new car with under 15,000 miles on it to see if it would also have the same problems as my mowers and dirt bike... a few thousand miles into them in the Toyota and we had tons of spark issues... E3 and the auto store we bought them from refused any refunds stating "Something is wrong with your car, not our spark plugs"... 3 out of 6 turned to poo... I put brand new NGK Iridiums in and the Check Engine Light and Spark Issues in 3 cylinders went away... and they still refused to give my $ back...

I never had any problems with the Denso or NGK Iridium plugs, everything I own gets the Iridium upgrade, I always noticed better/less fuel consumption when putting Iridium plugs in, I have seen less spark/fouling issues too in my push mower (Briggs engine) and my old Yamaha 100cc 2 stroke Dirt Bike :)

That's what I have in my Q...and it's still perfect. I bought it "just because" five years ago and no problems so far. Everything else has the regular NGK D8EA.

When you upgrade to NGK Iridium (resistor plug) from an NGK D8EA (non-resistor plug), do you replace the resistor cap with a different cap? Which Iridium do you recommend, the DR8EIX or the DR9EIX? I see lots of recommendations to go with a slightly cooler plug when upgrading to Iridium.
