Hey everyone! I got my hawk today and so far its awesome, just a few issues.

I cant seem to run it without the choke on. If I remove the choke it idles super low and dies usually, and wont rev very high at all, starts stumbling very early, about 1/4 throttle.

If I leave the choke on, it seems to ride ok, idle is very high and cant bring it down, and not much power but it runs. Also if I snap the throttle open sharply it dies.

From what ive researched, it seems like im running super lean, and the choke is possibly making up for that?

I have the mikuni carb, but im waiting for jets from china

I checked for loose connections between the head and carb, didnt find much.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Have you tried adjusting the screw on the outside of the carb? Yes I've had the same problems with mine especially in cold weather. Your mikuni should be good once you get the jetting figured out.

saw this video and it seemed like he was having a similar issue with a possible fix.

Does your mikuni on hand have jets installed in it now? Use it and try it out. Also , that idlets screw adjustment, did you play with it?

Running better with the choke on is normally a sign of an air intake leak. Tighten bolts on the carb and intake manifold. Don't tighten them too much at one time. Eighth to quarter turn and start it up. Repeat a few times until you no longer need the choke on a warmed up engine.

These things come horridly lean to pass EPA....and so does your Miikuni. It probably has a 100 main and a 20 pilot...which is as lean as the stock carb. Once it's jetted properly, problem solved.

Agreed, my idea was that the m carb may have a better design and flow better than stock carb, worth a try. Your probably right, same same except for replaceable jets.

My XMoto is extremely similar to your black bike. I rejetted the stock PZ carb (float bowl had normal screws), moved the needle clip down to the bottom notch. It runs great and has excellent throttle response....plus never gives me any trouble when it sits for lengths of time.

Ill see if maybe i can move the current jets over to the mikuni, hopefully thatll work a little better until those jets arrive. lol

If it isn't dusty out you could try running with the tube off. I would just loosen at the carb and turn one way or another to see if it will straighten out or put a hose clamp around the kink and slowly tighten to see if it will pop out. China rubber is kinda crappy when cold....

Sounds good, the end that goes into the airbox looks like it might not be seated correctly? Looks like its glued in.

Ill take it out later and see if it makes a difference.

if your in a hurry you could go to a local A/C supplier and see if they have a set of jet drills(they are in thousands so don't break one off in it, go slow). We use them to drill out furnace jets in the field in case you don't have the right ones on hand. I was going to take my original carb. to work with me and play around with them.kinda like these .http://www.amazon.com/CML-Supply-Micro-Drill-Chuck/dp/B001RJE3X8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457901395&sr=8-2&keywords=orifice+drill+bit+set

The Mikuni is a more nicely machined unit compared to the sealed up PZ unit that came off my Rhino. It runs really well jetted properly, clip in the right slot and mixture screw set correctly. Like a new quad.
You thinking of doing something with your exhaust??

Yeah I really cant wait to have this thing running to its full potential. Sounds like the mikuni is the way to go doing that.

OK so some weird stuff has happened, my clutch boot near my exhaust has half burned away. (Its not touching it... idk why its happening).

Now, it seems to be running pretty good without changing anything... I put premium gas in to try and help things along.

Still waiting on my jets... I was considering getting those drill bits tho.

Exhaust header is just a little hot from the Lean Jetting from the factory melting a cheap rubber boot is my guess, I would just wait and buy a replacement heat resistant boot (or get Hydraulic Clutch Upgrade) after you re-jet and cool down that engine/exhaust a bit

Thanks for your help!
