Hey guys,
So I'm having to tighten my drive chain like every 75km, is this chain just stretching a ton? I'm thinking of just getting a new chain but I don't know where to start. I'd like to get a high quality chain and not a cheap-o. Thanks for the help in advance.

I reccomend Unibear chain. It is pre-stretched at the factory, and the guys using it are having good service out of it. It only costs about 13 dollars and is of very high quality. Keep it clean and lubricated and it will last a long time

When I read posts like this it's usually because the guy is trying to keep the chain too tight. Make sure you're adjusting to spec and tightening the axle to spec.

I have the chain exactly to spec so I must need to tighten down the axel a bit more. I've heard some horror stories about the chain breaking while going up a steep climb and having to walk the bike back to the truck. I would just rather get a new one now.

Do you know what size of chain will work best for this bike?

As ARH recommended, get one of these. I'm sold. The original chain was horrible.

You'll like it. Weld. Out of box, each link was buttery smooth and is peened at 12, 3, 6, and 9. It runs silently on Mrs. 2LZ TT.

I just bought one of the unibear chains you guys are recommending too. For $20.00 I'd rather place a new one on, based on all the good reviews. As are some of the mechanical things on this bike, replacing the chain will be a new one for me. Can anyone suggest proper chain replacement tools?

You will probably need a "Chain Breaker"

http://www.harborfreight.com/heavy-duty-chain-breaker-66488.html

and something to cut/grind the rivets down a bit before you use the "Chain Breaker"... of course that's only if you need to remove any links in the chain

The video they change out a 520 O-Ring chain, the 428 chain on these China Bikes are a little easier to change out then a O-Ring 520 Chain ;)

Purchased the Amazin chain that was recommended and after I broke my original chain, the new one is 2 links too short...

Add a couple of master links. Not that I have ever done that...

I wanna keep the original sprockets for more torque for trails. I bought 130 link chain. Should be here 9/8/16.

Rats! I bought a 128 link chain too, based on a recommendation here. Looks like I'll count links before I cut, but I have the same bike as PNW so I too will probably need one with 130 links. I'll report back. Maybe the 128 link chain fits on the TT bikes that came with the 15 tooth front sproctet. Ok, the new Unibear 128 has--you guessed it--128 links. The TT has 130 links, like PNW said. So, did you guys who fit a 128 on make it fit by adjusting the wheel forward? Or that in conjunction with smaller sprockets? Also, I'll mention that the owners manual says the original chain must be cut off when it needs to be replaced. The manual says that it has no master link. Mine has a master link. That will make it simpler to change, just "daisy chain" the new one in. I'm new at chains. Is there 2 links of adjustment with the wheel adjusters?

Unfortunatley, that won't work. You will need a 428 "cranked link" piece. This whole issue is my fault. I should have added to buy at least the 132 link chain, and at least one spare master link. Because if you decide to change the countershaft sprocket down in size for riding the trails, and switch to the 17 tooth for on road riding, you will have enough chain and master links to get the job done. Of course, you carry the extra chain, links, master links, and wrench with you to get the switch accomplished with the minimum of grief, agony, and despair.

I forgot how many links I cut off (from 130) to use a 17t/45t sprocket combo. I can say with certainty, it was at least 2 so the 128 will be either long enough or too long. I would guess I cut 4 or 6 off (didn't use a 1/2 link so I know it wasn't an odd number).

does anyone know of a brand of circlip master link that will work with the stock chain? I want to experiment with smaller rear sprockets, and until I decided on final gearing, I won't be putting on a new chain. I'd like to make the stock chain work during sprocket testing.

Does anyone know how small on the back you can go with the stock length chain? yes I know I'll have to move the rear wheel rearward to get chain tension back.

FWIW, a 47 vs a 50 rear should reduce revs by about 460 RPMs at 60 MPH...

The 128 link chain I listed on the previous page works just fine with a 47 tooth and would probably accommodate the 45 without a problem. I'll look tonight to see how much more adjustment is left.
