So i recently changed out my spark plug to the NGK 2202 Iridium DPR8EIX-9 spark plug. And after this change I'm now hearing a tapping sound that seems to be coming from engine. I'm new to the Bike world as many of you already know. So i'm looking for advice on what this might be. Is it possible the valves have to be adjusted or something along those lines? My hawk only has 162 miles on it.

Hawk supposed to be super easy to get to valves, I would say it would be an immediate thing to do in case one is loose on the rocker ( maybe it's loose) either way you better check em asap unless noise is coming from down low.

Thank you guys, I just got back from the auto parts store. Had to get a Feeler Guage as I did not own one. I will check valves tomorrow and get back to you. I have never done anything with valves before so I'm going to watch Motocheez's video on it and see if I can get it done. Thanks again

It's very easy. My Hawk was the first bike I'd ever done the valve check and adjustment on all by myself. No need to remove the tank or anything, very simple.

Just make sure you are at TDC (Top Dead Center) by the T mark AFTER seeing the intake valve cycle. I first adjusted the valves on the wrong cycle (After exhaust cycle). Sounded like a BB Gatling gun for the 3 seconds I had it running.

Awesome. Thank you for this info. I feel a little better about trying this for the first time now. I have to admit i'm a little intimidated by this but i figure I can always stop here and ask questions and watch videos on it. hopefully all will go well. :thanks:

The first thing I noticed once I set the valves was how easy the bike started. you will notice the difference if they need to be adjusted.

KneeDeep - How did the valve adjustment go? Also, I see you're in Georgia. Did you register your Hawk there? If so, how difficult was it? I'm thinking about picking up a Hawk in a few weeks, and I certainly want to be able to use it as an on-road bike.

I'll chime in here. I live in Rabun Co and it was was simple as going to the sheriff's office for a VIN inspection and off to the Recorders office to get it registered. Took all of 30 minutes only because I BS'd with the Sheriff for half the time.

From what I've researched it's all according to your county. If youre n the bigger city areas like ATL or SAV can be a PITA.

I thought someone posted that Georgia was a no go for Hawks?! Or was it because they were in an anal retentive area?

Aren't you somewhere in the middle of nowhere, south of the US border :) :)

There is a guy on here in the Macon area I think that was having a lot of trouble. Not sure if ever got it registered. There is a guy on here in the statesboro area that had to register the magacian as a ninja(not sure how he did that). It seems GA is the same as AL when registering it all depends on how anal the tag office is.

I have been chronicling my DMV and Hawk adventures in this thread:

That's the recap up to today. I'll keep everyone posted when I hear back about the paperwork.
