can anyone tell me what they think of these bikes been drooling over video reviews but most are just walk arounds or some teenager who doesnt exactly know much about what hes talking about. so as far as these bikes go i know the 150 is a honda crf150f clone right? so is the 189 just a bored out 150 or a whole different animal? i am dead set on getting one in the future just cant decide what one i should get. looking for input. :thanks:

Engine is from http://www.tyanmotor.com/ which putted efforts made it fit for purpose ...
Domestic version http://bbs.moto8.com/thread-381252-1-1.html had lightweight piston (13mm pin /thin rings)... & NEEDS better grade oil (higher rev) & gas (higher c/r) than regular chonda... SSR's version had tamed 9.2:1 c/r

I think it was last month's Dirt Bike mag gave the 189 a really nice write-up.

No one that I recall has talked about either bike here, but I vaguely recall someone on another forum, not mychinamoto.com, discussing his experience, and he was all positive. I have a feeling, if you take it into the same 'league' as RPS's lesser known (from the Hawk's perspective) bike, the Viper 150, http://therps.net/DB-Viper.html, and that bike being a known decent bike, the SSR is probably even better. The Chinese seem to have building small bikes down to a science (as evidenced by how many positive SSR and other pit bike videos there are on youtube), so my guess is, either of these bikes will do the job, other than all out competition racing, which I am doubting is in your plans for either the 150 or 189. That being said, like most any Chinese bike, unless you have a local SSR dealer, you will be on your own for repairs and servicing, which isn't a bad thing with chinariders as your resource. Parts should not be too difficult to obtain, but don't quote me ;)

ive seen the viper 150 and also am tempted with that bike but overall the suspension setup on the ssr 150or 189 is far superior with inverted front adjustable forks and the rear adjustable shock, the overall build quality looks much nicer, frame especially. might be the same engine? but your right im not looking to get the bike for competing necessarily but i do alot of single track riding and my fiancee is a short 5ft 2 110 pound girl and shes been riding the old flywing 150 and comparing the viper to the flywing they look nearly identical with no seat and plastics just frame engine wheels so on. so who ever made the flywing must have either bought the company or used the same kind of build specs with improvements like a better rear swing arm with disk brakes front and rear and a better welding system for the frame. besides those things the engine shocks and frame geometry look very very close to one another. with that being the case the flywing rides like a mule stiff and heavy so unless the viper has somthing i dont know about that makes it cushy to ride id prefer an adjustable suspension system so she can ride it without haveing her teeth fall out :hehe: so with the rough rocky and frequent downed trees across the trails a good suspension is mandatory for the most part.

I believe the Viper is the exact same bike as our old Hensim DB150's. Great trail bikes and took us everywhere we wanted to go and further, especially with my lard butt on it.

That said, the 189 review I read in DB mag showed the SSR to be a totally different animal compared to our Hensims and far more ready to compete. The gal riding it (in the pics) looked like she was having a good time blasting it around a track. I'll have to dig it up and read it again tonight for any small tidbits of good info.
