A Better Feeler Gauge?

In previous threads some of us have complained about setting the valve clearances. Even with all the disassembly we have to do there isn't a lot of room to maneuver. I decided to try an offset feeler gauge from Motion Pro, and it did help me, a little.

BUT...I messed up when I ordered it, and now I have six of 'em! I'd rather give away the five I don't need than try to return them, so if anyone wants one, PM me with your mailing address and I'll send one to you. You read that right, free, gratis, no obligation whatsoever.

I own the same gauges. Very nice. I also purchased one of the valve adjustment tools, also very nice. Similar to this.

Very slick concept...yours has the correct flat-head screwdriver adjustor?

Yes you purchase which ever one you need for your application, they come in different sizes etc.. The large handle part slips over the lock nut and holds it in place then the small handle part does the adjustment then you give the large handle part a little twist to lock it back down.

Interestingly there are several videos on YouTube how to do your valve adjustments with these tools without ever having to use a feeler gauge again. Something to the affect you bottom out the adjuster and then carefully measure with the feeler gauge to the correct gap and then you scribe the tool. Now next time all you do is bottom out the adjuster and put your tool on in the exact same orientation/index and turn out your gap to your scribe mark and youre all set. I think I have that right but watch the videos.

That seems awfully wide for a motorcycle engine. My old 1988 Mazda B1800 truck called for that much clearance, though.

.006 inch is too big for anything I would need. If it was mm it would be OK

Good grief! The spec IS .06-.08mm. Those gauges are for .006-.008 inch. Egg on my face! Apologies to everyone.

So, why is the bike running so well on, roughly, double the required clearance? (.006 inch X 25.4=0.1524mm)
