My new 2007 Lifan LF200GY5 200cc Dual Sport.

Bought it from http://www.atvdiscounter.com/ but off ebay when they had a sale, $1099 shipped. Had it shipped to my local motorcycle shop www.shoremotorsports.com and Jon did a great job with the prep. Took them about 3.5 hrs to assemble and do all the neccessary prep like loc-tite on the screws, Royal Purple oil change, adjustments, etc, so it was $255 for labor and supplies, not too bad. Overall the bike looks and runs as I expected for the amount of money I spent. I was shocked that it actually has a digital transmission gear indicator!

So i drove it home, about a 20 mile ride (in the freezing cold 30 degrees) and it rode just about how i had imagined it would, comfortable cruising speed is 55mph with a max of 60mph on the flat (speedometer is accurate, tested against my wifes car). How does this compare to you other guys? NOTE: I am 6'6" 430 lbs so I'm guessing a lighter rider would go a bit faster. I don't plan on riding it again until the weather warms up, by then I should be at least 100 lbs to 150 lbs lighter (having gastric bypass surgery next week).

Here's a few pics, I may post up some video's tomorrow:

Some things of note:

(1) The bike has a rear drum brake, it was built in July 2007, I was expecting discs all around, but it seems to stop OK even with my weight.

(2) I'm getting a noticeable burning rubber smell, any ideas where I should look?

(3) The handlebars wont seem to tighten fully, I had Jon tighten them more but he didnt want to go much further for fear of stripping them. When I exit the bike I put my weight on the bars and they move down pretty easily. Ideas?

(4) The bike seems to idle around 3k rpm, is this OK? seems a bit high.

Thanks for any input you have!

great deal assembled $1354, and the engine is the real deal. there is a gold nob on the right side (if you are sitting on it), that is the idle screw. the handlebar issue is one I have too and with the small bolts and cast aluminum bar mounts I am afraid to go too tight. I have considered drilling them out to a larger size and re-threading them . The burning rubber smell is probably the rubber chain guide on the swing arm. some here have replaced it with a piece of Teflon plastic cut from a cheap cutting board.

Enjoy, and be safe

Hope the surgery went/goes well.

Looks good. Id say mine tops out at about 110km, but my speedo is so far off it's hard to say, it's said 160, and I know I wasn't going that fast.

I could keep up to the loaded trucks heading up into the mountains but the empty ones I moved over and let by.

Rather then strip the handle bar screws take the bike to a Mig-welder and get him to tack weld one small spot on each handle bar mount welding the bar to the mount. This will hold strong and if you ever need to remove the handle bars it would take 5 seconds to grind off the weld. Make sure you dab paint on the weld.

Your idle is for sure too high, You need to turn it down to 1000 rpm. The screw is easy to see by the throttle on the carb.

Bare in mind the weight limit for this bike is 330lbs. More can be carried but to be safe make sure you have the maximum tire pressure and check for any play in the wheel bearings. This is easily done by rocking the tire back and forth side to side. If there is any play in the bearing you'll feel it.
