Hey Guys,
I'm ready to go buy little man his first Gas Powered SSR 70! So how do you guys think I should do it? To him this is going to be a BIG day! Should I just go get it and have it in the yard when he gets home from school? Or take him to the dealer with me and let him pick it out? I know this may be silly to some, but I remember my first brandy new bike to this day! Thoughts?

I would say take him to the dealer, that will just add to the memory and it will make sure he gets what he wants too.

I called the dealer in Columbia. They tell me they have a blue one at one of their stores. But total out the door price is 933.00. WOW that is awefully hard to swallow seeing as I can get one from Powersportsmax for 719 shipped. OR, Kourtney at Scooterman USA, told me he can get me an Apollo DB25 for 480 in the crate. WHY is this so hard. Is the extra 450 dollars worth it for the experience of him going to the dealer and having the SSR bike?

Can you order the DB25, assemble it and hide it somewhere? The benefit is that you'll have the opportunity to go over everything before he receives it.

I think you should order the DB25 and have the little man help put it together. :) That memory will last forever.

I agree with Jerry, although that may depend on age. I know that Son of Weldangrind would not have had the attention span when he got his first bike at nine. When he got his second bike at 11, we bought it in a crate and assembled it together. He couldn't wait to ride it at 11, but by that time he knew the importance of proper prep.

Thanks Guys!! I think that is a FINE idea. Letsride Jr. LOVES to help daddy turn nuts and bolts, so I think that is what I'm gonna do. I think he would love to get a big box and crack it open like the rest of us.

 Sounds like a plan. I can remember working on the family cars with my dad. My draught helps me with the oil changes and maintenance on her UTV and 4 wheeler. She has gotten into the habit of checking everything over before she rides.

Well tomorrow is the big day! I'm off in the a.m. to Decatur Ga. to pick up letride jr's Brandy new Blue Apollo DB25. I'm gonna let him open the crate and everything. I'll get some video.

I still can't help but wonder if I'm doing the right thing by passing on the SSR! Oh well I just hope the little Apollo is gonna be a good little bike. We shall see.

Well, I woke up this morning, took little man to School and put the old Dodge in the wind. It was yet another worry free transaction with Kourney at Scooterman USA (which is now Mega helmets and motorcycles). He had the little Apollo sitting there in the crate when I got there. I paid him, loaded it up and had another nice chat with him. He tells me Peace Sports should have the BROZZ in at the end of February, WOOOOOT!! I got back to the Ranch at about 1:30! I couldn't wait for Letsride Jr. to get home. Here is the video of the Reveal.

He wanted to put the Bike together, so put the bike together we DID! IN the house, ON the coffee table!! Shhhhh, don't tell SWMBO! Don't worry my coffee table is made of 2x6's and 2x8's it can handle the job. We had a ball in the living room! LOL I still have to go over the electrical, adjust valve lash, adjust chain, change oil, loctite all bolts, and charge battery. These Apollo bikes are NOT TOO BAD, not too bad at all! It actually came with an assembly manual written in plain english, and a USEABLE owners manual written in plain english with nice pics and illustrations! There is even a WIRING DIAGRAM in the back. SAY WHAAAAAAAT?? Question, can I do away with this crankcase EVAP THINGY, its like it was an afterthought and sticks out there like a sore thumb.

Suppose I'd keep it but looks like a plumbing reroute is in order. Quick epa check box add on.

Good job dad. Was this an occasion , birthday?

Like BB stated. Needs to be rerouted. Bad plumbing job. I think it needs a few more kinks in the line and it should stop working.:hehe:

Thanks for sharing the vid; Dawson will create awesome memories with that bike.
I'd lose the thingy.

An early March Birthday Present. Thanks for all the nice replies. He was so excited, But I'm having an issue. I finished it up today and well, he can't even touch the ground on the thing. Apollo advertises a 21" seat height, this thing measures 25!!!:hmm: So I haven't let him ride it. A happy little boy he is not, but he understands.

Its great to see a young tyke bending wrenches.
-When I was that age, I would have rather assembled a bike from a crate with dad than going to a dealer for a turn key bike.

Is the shock at the softest setting? On the softest setting, he might compress it enough to get his feet on the ground. Alternatively, you could also buy a cheap eBay shock that is shorter and lower the triples on the forks a little.

The shock is on the softest setting. Another shock is a good idea. How would I go about shopping for one. Just by the diameter of the mounting holes and then length? That is probably what I will do. Thanks for the tips. Hey at least he can grow into it and so it should last a while.

Here's a stupid idea, but I work with those weight plates. The heavier ones are 20 lbs. They are rectangular and measure 1 inch in thickness. Anyway, since this is a temporary issue (because they grow like weeds) do you think you could somehow weight the suspension. After all, it's just going to be a yard bike for the near future and you are not worrying about performance.

That's exactly what I would do. You might find a shock with thinner wire, like from a scooter.

IN the house, ON the coffee table!! Shhhhh, don't tell SWMBO!

You should have seen the look on my moms face when she got back from vacation with my aunt and my dad had the back wall of the house blown out and a car stuffed into our living room. It was hard to hide under a table cloth.

Good move on the bike! New shock is definitely a good idea. It's not like you're worried about his clearing triple jumps yet. You can get one that will work for cheap. The good thing is he's probably growing like a weed so this is a temporary setback.

Thanks for all the tips guys. The shock that is on it is 10" center to center. So I'm gonna order a 9" Shock for it and drop the forks in the trees 1". I'll update my result.
