I did everything but the exhaust and intake when I first assembled mine. The only reason it is recommended to not do so with a brand new bike is for people unfamiliar with carbs trying to tune it during break in.

As far as fitting the sprocket cover without grinding. Mine fit as well, although it was a little snug when first putting the cover on. I ground mine down when I flipped my front sprocket because it made the problem worse.

I always swap the stock China fuel line for higher quality stuff. My favourite is blue snowmobile line; it's easy to see fuel flow and it remains flexible in cold weather.

my 17 tooth front went on easy too but there is only one position to get it to go on and you got to wiggle it till you find it.
