Hello,

I have actually been out to enjoy my hawk the last few days. I have noticed when I rev up to higher rpm's the engine sputters or even cuts out for a brief second. I have read some posts and it appears to be carb related. Everyone points to the Mikuni with upgraded jets.

Has anyone tried this carb? It says it is good for the HAWK 250CC in the description. Do you think it is any better, other than it being cooler than hell to look at. Would match my engine perfectly. :P

Seeing I will probably be replacing my stock one anyways, what's a few more bucks? Only if it is truly worth though.

Unless you are planning on removing the Cat or changing out the exhaust for a free flowing exhaust I would just change out the main jet on the stock carb. The stock carb come with a 98 main jet which is too lean for these bikes. with stock exhaust and air filter you can stick in a 110 or 115 main jet, turn out the idle mixture screw about 1 1/2 turns and shim the needle with 2 thin washers and should run better. On that carb you will need to change out the intake to a clamp mount from the flange mount. If you want any performance gain you will need to free up the exhaust flow by either removing the cat or upgrade to the Ebay exhaust system everyone else is using.

Thanks man, great advice! I think I will go with the exhaust first before anything else. I did the air box mod this weekend but it didn't really seem to do much, if anything.

Is that a side by side in your picture, with your Hawk?

You will notice a big improvement when you do the exhaust. With the exhaust mod you will want to start with at least a 115 main jet.

I just bought a Honda Pioneer 500. I can't wait until I can get out to use it. Figures I bought it at the start of mud season so most trails are close in NH until May 23rd. Sigh...
