And diesels take a lot of oil. One of my trucks takes 18 gallons.

Your prices are fine, NZ. CSC just pushes too many and the market is flooded.

Prices don't matter this time of year--no time to ride. Very depressing. I need ride time to treat depression after losing a wife and child. Riding and happy thoughts of what I could do with a big lottery win are much cheaper and significantly more effective than therapists.

You need both. Source: Lost a son three years ago.

Although the weather is rather good, my ride time has been limited by a few things. I also won't be doing all the miles I used to do on larger bikes. This seat and position is just not good for my back at all. I'm not sure what the improvement could be. I'm just built for hours on a sport-tourer, but not on a dirt bike. I expect less than two oil changes per year.

My only reason for wanting the mesh filter is I like a cleanable filter. Just preference.

You're right about no time to ride. Need warmer days..... This is the time of year I go out to the garage and see how many batteries I need to resuscitate (or replace) in the rolling stock. I need to buy more float chargers for the down season.

Time spent cleaning filters is time not riding. I'd buy a disposable paper air filter if it were offered. Mesh oil filters also do a terrible job of cleaning the oil.

I ordered some parts from Tako and they all arrived quickly via DHL without issue! I can fully endorse ordering parts from him and I will certainly order from him again in the future.

I have posted 3 different big bore kits on eBay as there are 3 brands and 3 prices.

Cheapest being $199.99 shipped via ePackete seeing the packaging is smaller lighter and able to offer a cut down price - no extras etc but low low price.
My premium product is the RTC at $250 and for MX bikes and those wanting to try the 298cc there is the 3rd kit for $325 shipped (also light smaller packaging).

I think I have the best options for customers needs

Curious to see how the 298 kit works out. I may have to spring for it this summer when I'm dying for a project, not that I'm unhappy with my RTC kit. Has anyone installed one yet?

I have seen several fitted in China on MX bikes with a Carb, one EU guy bought a kit for his AJP but he is able to tune the ECU.

No other info I know of, sadly that is all I know

That would be my main concern. If the stock EFI can feed the bigger hole.

Finally was able to be home with decent weather to ride. NZ's seat cover is awesome, at least as comfy as any other mod or combination of mods I've tried. For the price, can't be beat.

However, doesn't matter any more. The RX3 has 12460 miles, and that's all I'll go for. I've been riding for 54 years and literally have had to tow the bike home for repairs as many times in 12460 miles as all previous street bikes combined, about 660,000 miles. Also, the RX3 takes 3-4 times as many hours to keep it serviced and repaired as any other motorcycle I've had over the last 54 years.

If I didn't have other bikes I'd be stuck in the shop tomorrow fixing the RX3 AGAIN instead of riding. Tomorrow I'm changing the oil and switching the plate to the TW276 café. It hasn't yet broken. The RX3 is getting fuel treatment and shoved to the back of the stack of projects wanting my attention.

I regret selling the Nighthawk 750 instead of making the ergos fit. Minimum maintenance and dependable as a rock. Brake, electrical, suspension, and ergo upgrades would come out cheaper than keeping the RX3 running, and never adjust valves. AAAaaaahhhhh!!!

Was there a "magic mile" when your RX3 started to fail? I don't have your miles but both my RX3's have been very reliable.

It would be nice if he'd start a new thread with a chronological list of failures for the rest of us RX3 guys. I think he took a good tumble at one point too.

My 2015 RX3 just rolled over 20,000 miles. Used for daily commuting and weekend road trips in Southern Calif. Fair amount of 2 up riding. Still have the original front tire, but I have changed the rear already 3 times. I had the gear shift lever spring fail at about 12,000 miles and that repair involved some partial tear down to replace. While I was in there I replaced the clutch as well. Did not really need the clutch, but while it was apart I got it done.

That little spring has been my only failure. That spring has been upgraded so should not be a problem for anyone going forward. Very reliable bike.

Valve adjustments require some time to partially tear down the bike to get to the valve covers, after that it goes quickly and easily. I have noticed that the exhaust valve need adjustment more frequently than the intakes. I do the exhaust valves every 3,000 miles with minimum tear down of the bike. I do the intake valves every 6,000 with more disassembly of the bike required. I set the valve adjustment at the higher end of the specification. That gap gets smaller over time as the bike is ridden until out of spec.

I wonder if a bit better resistance to the pulse they suffer from
Mind you more aggressive braking solves that too

So I bought a kit just to see etc.
Decent and a vast number of specialty small parts that may not be easily or able to buy at the local hardware store etc.
It would be a 1Kg package and $30.

"NC250 engine repair kit collects and trims 61 specifications and 136 parts, all of which are derived from Zongshen's after-sales system. The quality is guaranteed to protect your daily maintenance."

in some way regardless what in it or not in it there may always be too many or not enough small parts.
Maybe the sprocket bolt should be included and all small copper washers etc.
Anyway here's what I know now.

Greetings Brakelathes
I need a tail light assembly please. Half of the bulbs/ led’s have stopped and after stripping the rear end I’ve discovered its a sealed unit.
My bike is a 2015 RX3 with the 17 front wheel so I’m pretty sure it’s the earliest model.
Very happy to pay in NZ$ if that’s is still an option.
Thank you 🙏

Tail light is fitted and is perfect. I didn't realise how many LED's there are supposed to be with lights all the way up the sides too.
Thanks again !

A question to the "community brain" is anyone replacing the various screws and bolts with more durable/higher quality ones?
As I work on my bike more and more I am thinking it might be good to fit allen screws and stainless bolts to keep things useable for longer.

Are there ready made sets of do you just buy as you go from the local hardware store?

Danny, if you are in the US it's easiest to simply order a selection of OEM stainless steel screws from CSC. You will find that some of the SS stuff (the screws/bolts holding the plastic to the tank) are hard to duplicate at the hardware store. The quality of the SS bits is pretty good. My 2016 is not showing any signs of rust on the fasteners and the only ones I have had to replace were due to me dropping them, then they bounce off into never-never land. With that said, the covers on the cams and crankshaft are the exception. They are made of some kind of soft metal and it's all too easy to chew them up. They are also unique enough that CSC is your only source. At least they are cheap so I have a few on hand. Once again, invest in about $10 worth of a selection of common sizes from CSC and you are set. Tako also offers a kit of spares and it looks like his kit covers far more than just the SS stuff I mention.

The screws on this bike, like most Asian bikes, are not real Philips. They are JIS. When you use a Philips driver on JIS screws, it tends to chew them up as only a tiny bit of the driver engages the actual sides of the cuts in the screw. You can always use JIS drivers in Philips however. I picked up a set of JIS hand screwdrivers and a set of bits to go into my impact driver. The difference in usability, once you experience it, will shock you.

The Allen bolts are not perfectly sized. I keep a ton of hex keys around that have collected over time. I try different ones to see what fits best. Interestingly enough the Harbor Freight Allen key set fits most of the CSC bolts rather well. My Craftsman are less reliable for fit on this bike.

This was one of the first things that I did on my RX3. I wasn't too enamored with the green phosphate finished hardware on the bike, so everything that I could source a similar fastener in A2 or A4 stainless for, I replaced. Axle nuts, oil filter nuts (M5, IIRC), bracket bolts (mostly M6x1.0 button heads in various lengths), side fairing screws, luggage rack mounting bolts, even the bolts that hold the latches on the resin top and side cases. Probably spent US $150-$175 on them, when all was said and done. An excellent source for metric fasteners, stainless or otherwise, is Belmetric.com. They sell genuine SAE Grade 2, 5, and 8 fasteners, or the metric equivalents (Class 4, 8.8. 10.9, 12.9) Grades 5 and 8 are what you want, Class 8.8 or higher for metric. Most A2 Stainless steels come in a hair under Grade 5 or Class 8.8 in strength, but it is not enough to make a difference on anything on a motorcycle's exterior. This includes things like the valve, stator, and clutch covers on the engine, also (more M6x1.0 bolts here). No worries about rust anymore, and they look world's better than the stock fasteners.
