Been blind me whole life. I was the kid with thick glasses in second grade. Not only that but my eyes were so different from each other, they never worked together in stereo. I've always had flat vision. Why people followed me on motorcycles is beyond me.

In the last year my cataracts got so bad it was time to get them done. My best buddy was starting to call me Stevie (Wonder). As in "Hey Stevie, get me a beer while you're fumbling around in the kitchen!" Ba$tard...... What are friends for, right?

Tuesday afternoon I went in to have them done. I had both eyes done at once and the surgery went well. I woke up the next morning in my mom's spare bedroom, opened my eyes and for the first time in my 59 years, I had clear vision in both eyes. I've never seen stereo before. My brain is still adjusting to it.

If miracles exist, this has to be damn close. Now, I'm just trying to figure out who that ugly a-hole is in the mirror.

I came in here just to ask how that went!

Glad it worked out for you. Enjoy your new eyes. Did they fit laser-rangefinding and thermal imaging?

Cataracts have a yellowish-hue to them, so your brain introduces blue to negate the yellow effect. Once the cataracts are removed, it takes a bit for the brain to readjust and stop producing blue. The by-product that several patients report is that the sky is more blue than it has ever been (for a short time). Did you experience that?

So glad it went well for you! I'm hopeful that I can have the same result, should I ever develop cataracts.

Indeed it's more blue, as is everything more vibrant and has depth for the first time. Now I have to get out of the habit of constantly closing my left eye.

My ophthalmologist has a good gig going. He claims everyone has the "beginnings" of cataracts. I too, had the thick glasses all of my life-legally blind without corrective lenses, and even then they weren't so hot. He does a lens implant-sort of a contact lens that's installed under a flap in the actual eye- to improve the focal point. Because it's considered corrective surgery-he removes the "beginnings" at the same time- it's covered by insurance, unlike lasik, which most insurances consider to be cosmetic, and is not covered. I no longer have to wear glasses(20-20, 20-30 vision) only need glasses for close reading, and those are just cheap-o dollar store 1.25s. Being in my mid sixties, that ain't too shabby! I had it done almost ten years ago, and no issues.

This is great news, glad the surgery went well! It must be nice to get rid of the coke bottles (from one coke bottle wearer to another, -6.50 here)

Almost one week report:
I've discovered that having semi-regular eyes for the first time in my life has been an odd experience. First, not ever seeing in stereo prior to this, I've had to relearn how to judge distances and widths. I've been running into crap and also as my hands swing when I walk, I've been freaking smacking them on everything!! We took the little enduro bikes out this weekend and I went into probably three corners that I know very well, way to hot. Have to work on the distance judging thing.

Also, I go to bed every night thinking that I've forgotten something. You have no idea how many times I've turned off the bedroom TV, reach up to feel on my face for my bed stand glasses which are not there., "Damnit...I didn't take out my contacts.....", then realize that I don't need to do anything because this is how I see now.

I go back in Wednesday to get the stitches out. I'm sure I'll need some glasses because they're not perfect but it will be nice to wear just normal glasses for a change.

I had cataracts surgery in both eyes , left one in 97 from a trauma induced Cataract, and the right one in 2016 (cause I'm old) had a "Multi-focal" lens put in the right eye, which lets me see up close and distance, I love it, the one from 97 is just a distance one, and It has remained the same since it was put in back in 97.....vision is something you don't think about until it is gone, or brought back.......
I'm glad yours went well!

I need glasses pretty bad. Mine is mostly eye strain I think. I don't want glasses and I can't wear contacts due to an old eye(s) injury. I look goofy in sunglasses of any kind. Eyeglasses will be much worse.

Whoops! Just caught this.
It's going very well. Still on the Pred drops but all else is back to normal.
I went in and got measured for glasses last week. Decided not to go with contacts for the first time in almost 40 years. It's been so nice not to mess with them.
Even still needing glasses, I see WAY better than I ever have. I could probably get away with no glasses but I'm curious to see what the world looks like with them.

Glad it's going well for you! I just got LASIK done a month ago - VERY happy with the results. I'm 20/15 in both eyes now - still not used to not putting in/taking out contacts everyday after wearing them for over 20 years. (i'm 36, almost 37). The technology has come a long ways! I remember seeing it back in the 90's, you had to do one eye at a time and it'd have to be covered for a long time to heal before you got the other one done.
