Q: so why going from #20 to #38 for stock vm22 pilot jets?
A: "mikuni numbers are flow rate, keihin numbers are a hole size".

Q: are the pilot jet 6 holes vs 8 holes a difference?
A: yes, but very small impact in jetting.

i am now understanding the numbers more thanks to mike at jetsrus.
thought i would share this for othe newbies in carbs like myself.

ok, i have been through plenty of these vm22 clones and genuine vm22.
these seem to be very inconsistently stock in the jet styles, even same item from same seller.

the main difference it seems is the pilot jets being totally different in style.
most come with the #38 pilot, and that is a keihin clone pilot jet.
some come with the mikuni #20, and that is a mikuni clone pilot jet.
so, if you don't have the part number or jet size in the sale listing, wait until you have it in hand to verify style of pilot jet.

#1 in the pic is vm22 #20 clone pilot jet ( few this way)
#2 in the pic is vm22 #25 clone pilot jet (very few this way)
#3 in the pic is vm22 #38 clone keihin pilot jet (mostly this way)&(keihin 3j)

thank you, it prob being a good company, i would say they are consistent in what they send you since they say whats in it. i have bought three vm22 from same "high-score"-ebayer and they had two different pilot types...:grr: i guess this is why the ones that do not say whats in it are 30-40 bucks bc they dont know what they have this week....

"THIS" is over twice the cost of most....its not a problem with the cheaper ones, if you want to wait till it arrives to make sure of pilot style, even if its same item from same ebayer. tbolt prob is ok to get consistency. if not, then its all over the place re-learning these carbs if running different styles....messed up you cant predict what u get.....
i guess its tbolt next time.....unless someone can lead me to the next vm22 clone specified-pilot carb for less.

This is the carb that I bought for my 2017 Apollo DB-X18 I have it jetted with a 20 pilot, & 112.5 main at sea level.

FWIW, Mikuni uses hole size for jet numbers. IOW, a 100 jet is 1.00mm, a 110 jet is 1.1mm, etc.

So if I get one of these VM22 clones that comes the #38 clone keihin pilot jet what size jets as a base for tuning should I get for a 120cc? (fake 124cc). Everything I read suggests a 17.5 pilot but I'm guessing that is a true Mikuni jet size. Same with main jet, recommended seems to be 100~105, again is that Mikuni sizes and if so what are the equivalent clone keihin jets?

its been a while since i revisited this. your best bet is to order keihin from jets r us and ask them what sizes to order for 120cc. i cant exactly remember what number is ordered for my 125cc but had to use the keihin brand from them. jets r us are fast to reply
