Have been trying to find this out as well. I have tried the above, but no dice. Some have said the Hellcat will not switch over to MPH from KMH, but I have seen several online pics of Hellcats that do read in MPH. Anyone that has actually got it to work on a Hellcat??

prob have to buy new cluster. this is usually common early bird shipments on new bikes and atv's. this run of hellcats must be new allotment for the dealers and they ordered wrong ones, and prob whole allotment is this way....once you get the mph one it will most likely read 6mph faster than gps mph

Yes. 2017. But think they missed up the 2018.
What imapdog said below.

I believe federal law for DOT/EPA certified bikes, they MUST be in MPH. I doubt you guys will get recourse, as opposed to paying out of pocket, but perhaps putting some pressure on the dealer might help.

It seems to be a problem in the 2018’s. I am going to ask the dealer about it (familygokarts) as if they are selling To US customers, it seems it should have the option to register in MPH. On the start up sequence it will show a MPH on the cluster (along with everything else) but after the sequence it goes to the KPH setting and cannot be switched that I can tell.

Hey guys, new guy here.
I also just picked up a Hellcat two weeks ago myself, and with the same issue. My speedometer lights up and right to KPH. Tried everything to get it to mph. Basically we have to replace with these with a better speedometer?

Not a very beautiful solution, but I would just use one of my old cell phones (no sim) and load a speedo app on it. They are plentiful in the app store and way way more accurate than any china bike or Japanese bike speedo. Get a mount off of ebay and your golden.

My 2018 Gen2 Vader does read in MPH and not KPH, but that said according to my cellphone app and also running it alongside other vehicles and comparing MPH readings, it is laughably inaccurate.Still ,if you run it alongside someone and find out what your 3 most common legal speed limits are on your speedo and memorize what that shows as on your bike, that will almost always get you by, it ain't like your in serious danger of breaking any speed limits if you find out what 25,35, 45 are .

Thats good advice. I do same.

Just swap the speedometer out to one that you can calibrate
Like this one. Samdo Motorcycle Digital Odometer Speedometer Tachometer KMH MPH 14000RPM Gear Dirt MotorBike 1,2,4 Cylinder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYK10Q2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gKYJBbM2V5SSN

We'll see when ShiftDX gets his in. I be willing to bet the wire color codes match up.

After looking at both Speedos it looks like they are the same one. Just that one doesn't have the picture with gears and turn signal lit up but the description is the same.

Nice, thanks for the point in the right direction JerryHawk. The one you sent me will be the one I get, I like the colors it can be set to as well. I’ll post some updates when parts finally come in the mail. I would assume they would be pretty much plug and play, but for that price really can’t beat it.

Unlike the stock speedo at least you will be able to calibrate it to be dead on accurate.

Got my speedometer in today, almost plug n play. The stock speedo has a female plug leading to the speedo wire, where as the new speedo has the male plug instead. All I did was hack off the plugs and swap them. Seems to be working nicely. Nice and bright! Also had two more single wires I didn’t find homes for on the new speedo but I just taped them off. Everything seems to be working as in indicators too. Not a bad buy.

Glad to see you were able to find a small workaround!
I had an update on the speedometer in the 2018 Hellcat models. According to the online rep I bought my bike from they have contacted TaoTao and TaoTao is aware the speedometer does not have the availability in the current 2018 models to be switched from MPH to KPH. TaoTao says they are looking into this. Did a little further research and it appears that vehicles sold in the US are required to have the availability to do so according to the following information from NHTSA (sorry for the small print, as it is cut and pasted). "all vehicles sold in the U.S. must display vehicle speeds in mph, or mph and km/h these vehicles fail to fully meet the requirements set forth in paragraph S5.2.1 of FMVSS No. 101."
I hope they will honor sending replacement units to be exchanged out to current 2018 buyers.

Someone on youtube stated that if you hold down the left button until it blinks, and then push the right button, it will change. Not sure if anyone knew about this and tried it, or that is for a different year's Hellcat speedo? Or it simply does not work?

So I have a taotao hellcat as well and had to buy the samdo speedometer too. You say it was plug and play but when I first plugged mine in the 3rd and 4th gear wires needed swapped around (no big deal) just curious if you had to do that? Also my speedo is reading zero after the plug swap. Did yours work right away or maybe I got a defective speedo? Also what calibration setting do you have? Any help would be appreciated

I've read the 12” wheel speedo calibration setting/value should be 045 but I can't confirm. Not sure about any of your other questions.

Did you order the 4 speed or the 5 speed? What code did you use for calibrating the speedo?
Thanks

What number?
I've called the number listed on their site (1-855-675-2626) at different times throughout the last couple of weeks and just get a recording saying no one is available.

Same problem as well. Any info? Also, does anyone have a picture or diagram of stock speed pickup wire colors and orientation? Thanks.

Yes. Another user posted a diagram on the cluster and which wire corresponds to which gear. I can post the diagram when I get home but if you can't wait just do a search it is in the street forums

When you sliced the speedo wires to the plug that came with the new speedo, what color wires from the sending unit went to what color wires on the speedo? Do you have a picture?
Thanks,
