I was just wondering, Is there a top or bottom when installing a rear shock?
If a shock has a preload screw does it point up or down when installed?

thx

Does the preload screw go closer to seat or to back wheel? Does it matter?

"Normally" speaking the preload collar is at the top, however this makes it really hard to get to . YouTube has a lot of Videos with them mounted at the bottom , and they say that unless it is a reservoir back shock, and sometimes even if it is, which way it is mounted , either up or down is fine.
If clearance or accessibility is an issue with it mounted one way, then invert it . I am going to mount my Ohlins "upside down" as well as "backwards" or I wont be able to get to the preload collars at all ,theres no way i can get a wrench up there to where the top shock bolt installs to adjust the preload collars ,and i need to be able to do that , so upside down it is.

Ya that's what I was concerned about when I was looking at install videos.
Saw a few people install upside down so wasn't sure. When i get a shock i'll decide which way fits better.

Is Mr Crow sticking an Ohlins on a China bike ? That would be pretty hard core .In 1980 it cost me $1300.00 for a set of rear ohlins shocks for my Can Am 400 race bike ,then in 1981 I was sponsored by the Can am dealership for parts and help ,so I was able to buy a brand new canam 400 mx6b for $1300.00 which was the same bike with the ohlins already installed from the factory .

Actually it's a Thailand Ohlins knock off I bought from 402 Innovations for 100 'ish dollars. I like nice things but a $400 Ohlins shock on a $1,000 bike just wasn't gonna happen if it was me paying for it lol.

Ha no bruces he's getting a similar knockoff. think he said around $160
Ya i can't justify spending over $200 for a part for a $1000 bike.
