Just got my magician.. Did a Rotella T4 oil change and put the properly gapped Iridium plug in, and the 110 jet on the PZ30 with mix screw 1.5 turns out.. Charged battery.. Put in fresh BP gas.. Did both brakes with DOT3 and DOT4.. etc.. etc..(no engine stuff besides oil and plug)

First time I go to crank it there is a loud card-in-spoke sound in valve area.. I open up the valve cover and everything looks normal.. It runs normal besides sound.. I go to get it on T| line going counter clockwise with a 25" brake bar, and ever time I get about on T| line the engine just flips over as if I didn't even have the 25" brake bar on the timing nut.. I've never seen this before and would like some more experienced feedback..

It cranks on a dime but the sound and I can't get it on T-line do to weird springing action even with a 25" brake bar....

take the spark plug out. make sure your on the compression stroke

Sounds like your fighting the compression at TDC, pull the plug. Put you finger over the hole and feel for pressure , then your on the right stroke. 18mm socket for that plug type.

I'd highly doubt the heads got a crack.

I did it with the plug in but valve cover off, and when the valves were both closed(both up not moving when shaft moved) checked for compression stroke on kickstarter-hardness and went for T|.. I assume this is right because on F| using that method the valves both had clearance as people described(too lean). I though maybe it was their valve clearance doing it, but they were around .001** on F| on the compression stroke. I set them to .00285(both) using that method and still noise.

I also have to battle flooding cause the PZ30 pilot jet, and the two choke states don't seem to do anything. I have to open up the needle just to get it started, and if I do it after draining the bowl it wears the stock battery out..

One more thing.. This engine is extremely bad in <70F weather where it's raining.. Major condensation over night causing white oil.. I wonder if this is what causes noise but I haven't kept it running long enough to evap it out of fear it's a rod, spring, or bearing issue..

On another Magician I did valve clearance on you could precisely place timing marks using the same method from the factory.. This one once you get to F| it just kicks over..

Make sure the header pipe is snugged up tight. Possible exhaust leak at the header and head.

I took this new Q9 Magician to a Suzuki dealership shop and it was confirmed they sent me a Magician that had been ran or tested with a bad valve in some way.. Broken valve and obvious marks all over the piston.. It also came with a busted up throttle and dented exhaust(but the metal frame and cardboard were not damaged that it came in..) that I let slide, but this..

"Free one Year Engine Parts Warranty - $119.95 Value"

We are about to test that selling point..

FYI Q9 is TX Powersports.. All my shipping papers and forms had that on it.. There shipping and MCO+Bill-of-sale timing were perfect, and I'm hoping they back up their warranty claim cause this thing is basically dead and worth about 1/8 what I paid for it..

Well that's a bummer. Hope they take care of it.
Q9 is not owned by TXpowersports . Hawks and Magicians are shipped out of Carrollton, Tx from Ricky Power Sports. Now it could be possible that it got shipped from TXpowersports if the warehouse didn't have your color in stock and TXpowersports did and had it shipped from them. Lets hope that Manny didn't take over RPS.:ohno:

Yeah it's Ricky Power Sports that is on the manual and papers..

It really sucks because everything else was perfect.. Fast shipping and nine days after form submission "Motorcycle" MCO and bill of sale both notarized. I'm still waiting to hear back from Q9 about the engine parts warranty.

I'm wondering with the ~1mm dings on the piston if I can get away with just putting another head and pushrod on it? I don't know what Q9 is going to do yet if anything at all..

Did you get to see the valve? Did it just lose part of the seating surface? If so, I'm wondering how it ran at all, since there would be a significant loss of compression. Got pics?

I suspect more than the surface because no compression no matter valve setting and debris in cylinder. It came with a knocking rod or tapping valve and died after first start with T4 oil in it and a minute of running.. Valves move so pushrod might still be good.

I'll look more this weekend. I think you can only buy valves or a whole engine, but it should be in the parts warranty..

Did you contact and send pictures to the dealer? They may send a complete engine.

I contacted Q9 days ago through their contact form and no response yet. I'd send them the whole engine if they were willing to send me another.

Again the bike looked lightly used when I got it.. No damage to the shipping frame or cardboard, but the throttle assembly was twisted and cracked, muffler was dented, and right peg looked twisted 45 degrees and painted over, and right front turn signal was crushed.. Then the engine. There is an actual engine parts warranty included in the price, and if they backed it up I'd still recommend them over other sellers cause everything else was perfect..

Have you called them? Sometime these web base means of communication aren't very reliable. Call them and let them know you submitted in case it got overlooked.

Here are pics took today. I think a engine swap is in store there are some deep pits in the piston.

Head is dead for sure. Parts of the compression chamber look melted..

Q9 I called today and was told they only do warranty claims mon-fri and only through service-at-q9powersports.com so I sent another email..

I forgot to mention it had sand in the front master cylinder too along with water in front and back.. But, again, no damage to shipping frame or cardboard
