Where is the best place to get motorcycle insurance?
I have everything with statefarm and just found out they do not like to insure motorcycles so their rates are very high.

CSC tt250 will be the motorcycle.

Geico quick quote runs $100-$150 per year depending on coverage.

Geico is decent, I had them for years. I switched to Progressive last year because it was a hair cheaper, but honestly they are comparable.

One word of advice from a long time rider is to spend the little bit of extra money for uninsured motorist and underinsured motorist coverage. If you get in a crash with a car and wind up in the hospital, and your health insurance decides to deny you for doing a "recreational activity" you will be thankful you had some form of insurance to cover your expenses. Necessary? No, not really. But for an extra few bucks a month it never hurts to cover your behind.

I have State Farm, I don't recall the rate but I think they are around $125/yr.

The only issue I had is they didn't know what the hawk was so I gave them the model of the closest Honda I could find so they had a starting point, they sent all the information to underwriting with no issue.

I have mine with Progressive, no problem adding it to my existing policy and my cost went down $60 a year :)

I have everything insured with Allstate but they would not add the hawk to my policy because they couldn't find it in the system. It took me less than 10 minutes to get a quote and insured with Geico for $99 a year. I called back Allstate and told the gave her all the information that Geico used and she still couldn't find it yet we have other members on her that had no problems getting it with Allstate.

Does anyone have experience with AAA insurance? I keep getting offers from them. I have Geico now and am happy but am wondering about AAA.

Allstate for just liability comes to around $4 a month. Though about adding uninsured motorist as well.

I ride 99% off road... not tagged... maybe be worth comparing them...

You guys are so blessed. I'll pay around $130.00 for only three months in my Province. BC has government insurance, so not all Provinces are as steep.

Hey Weld... don't you have progressive insurance where you are??? or Travelers Insurance??? :hmm:

It has a lot to do with the type of coverage as well. How comprehensive is that insurance? Most of the rates you are seeing here are likely the most basic liability coverage. Go full comprehensive and the price goes up a decent amount. If I were to only insure my Hawk on its own policy (no discounts) with full comprehensive insurance and maxed uninsured and under insured coverage, it would cost around $350/yr. Contrast that with minimum liability and no additional coverages and it is about $200 cheaper.

hey Mega... I have 6 vehicles and a house... only 2 drivers... I have full coverage on 5 vehicles and liability on just 1.. I pay 1400. a year for all 6 of my vehicles and house per year... I was with allstate for 40 years and they charged me 3200.00 a year for the less on my house and 2 of my cars coverage... this a no-brainer.. I went with Progressive and they found Travelers which saved me alot per year with more coverage on my house and cars... and still saved.. I was one of those people that got comortable with paying anything my insurance company sent me until I thought it was way too much... then searched around and found Allstate was the highest... so shop around... it really pays....

I'm with Progressive. We have a combined policy for the Suburban with the camper as a rider that sets us back about $850 every six months. I have all the bikes together on the same policy, and that's about $250 a year. Once the scrambler is all back together and on the road, I may put it in a specialty policy by itself for classic vehicles. The way those policies work is that they insure an agreed upon value, instead of a repair or replacement cost. We used Haggerty for some of our classic cars years ago, and they were pretty reasonable. It was less than $50 a month for roughly $40k of coverage on my MGTD, and the missus' '66 Mustang was about $18 a month. I don't remember what value we had on the 'stang, but I think it was right around $18k or so.

I'm been insured with Progressive for years, I have full coverage(w/ over state minimums) on the Victory which cost me ~$350/year. I haven't got a price on adding the Pitster Pro yet(just waiting to get the VIN) but I have talked with them about a few other small CC dual-sports....Basically, with these small inexpensive bikes the multi-vehicle discount pretty much washes out the cost of adding the additional bike

Nope. BC has government insurance, called Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC). It is a complete monopoly and their current financial state is a dumpster fire. They've applied to raise our rates by 6% this year.
Don't ask what I'm paying for car insurance.

When I say $130.00 for three months, that's only PL and PD, with no other coverage of any kind. If I wanted comprehensive, it would quickly out-value the bike.

Weld ok... I understand now... just like in Ma... the state insures the drivers... sorry to hear that... there's only a set fee that you pay... and a hike of 6% is going to be way too high... and the cars you drive geeze... you work just to pay for the insurance...

Trust me, I get new quotes and shop around every year. You have to keep in mind the large number of factors that determine that cost, many of which are generally true across the board with all insurers. A big one is regionality. State, county, even zip code can change the rates by a decent amount due to theft, accident rates, etc.

Since I live in Nebraska, you would assume it would be cheaper than most other states, but it isn't. Per Capita Nebraska has one of the highest levels of bikes on the road - along with Iowa and South Dakota. Then factor in Omaha, which has an unusually high motorcycle theft rate, and the premiums go up with comprehensive coverage. Some companies actually go as far as making theft coverage optional if the bike does not have a lien on the title.

I have the most squeaky clean of driving records over the last 10 years. I am a mid 30's male so no youth premiums, I have 16 years of riding experience, and my bikes are parked at home in a secure garage with security measures. The only thing that could get my insurance any lower is to get married, which would literally drop my insurance premiums by half. I call that the rouge penis premium.

Let's compare that to my lady, who will be a brand new rider. While looking at bikes we also looked at insurance quotes for the various bikes. She has two accidents (no fault) and a speeding ticket in the last 5 years. On the same bike, a Honda Shadow 750, her insurance was 65% of what mine would have been for the same coverage through the same insurance company as a new rider. :hmm: Even she thought that was ridiculous.

When I say $130.00 for three months, that's only PL and PD, with no other coverage of any kind. If I wanted comprehensive, it would quickly out-value the bike.

Wow, that is insane!

yea, what you say is true... when I got married this past June, I sold my house and moved in with her... so I left a house on a 1/4 acre of land and moved in her house with 20 acres and because now Travelers charge me more in my zip code area because of all the deer out here... I think it's a rip but what can you really do... all the companies do the same thing to make a dollar...

And Mega.. don't forget about the credit ratings... they charge accordingly to your driver's record and credit rating... geeze... when I saved 1500 or so on a 6 month policy.. or 3000 a year.. I was so glad to see that... the insurance woman told me if I want my insurance cheaper I would need to sell one of my cars... yea.. right... don't know what they would charge for a motorcycle... I just ride mine here on the property and a little on the street to get to other trails out here... lots of farm lands... :D

As far as my credit score goes, let's just say that I can only really go downhill. I also don't have a whole lot of debt. I own my home, fully bought and paid for by 7 years of savings while I was a truck driver. I have one small loan, one store credit account I keep revolving with a small balance, and no credit cards. So, as far as credit ratings go, I am hard to beat. I did that intentionally, because I hate being in debt. I will save and buy with cash whenever needed. My mother taught her son well.

I won't lie though, it took a lot of time to get into this position, and to be honest I wish I had a credit card sometimes for emergency situations. However, I know what kind of trap that can be, so I just live without them and TRY to keep a good balance in my savings.

Like I said, the only real negative I have going for me at this point, besides being single, is that I am a man. I get to pay the unmarried man tax.
